Sounds like a good idea Bingstress. Columbus day weekend I have company coming into town and also will be busy with whip cracking competitions Saturday and Sunday. I'd be available Monday though if people are off of work.

That monday sounds good to me.I love the State fair suggestion,Bingstress!Perfectly nostalgic.
Will it be open that monday?
We could meet up at Big Tex,grab some drinks and food, catch a show, there's always a band playing somewhere, and if anyone's feeling brave hit a couple of rollercoasters. Our options are definitely wide open.
We could wear casual vintage or inspired attire.(easy to identify each other that way)

Columbus Day...

CD may be do-able for me also. I'm gonna bring my wife with me...so here's the deal...I can't go if it's all girls, if you know what I mean. I need some men to go in order for me to justify the trip. So...how many of the boys are going?

My wife and I will be there...

if an emergency doesn't come up at the last minute. It will be a pleasure to see ITG, Leslie and Big T again and meet the rest of the group.

Leslie is right, the historical area in Carrollton is very nice. We could do the historical district on Sunday and the State Fair on Monday.

Victoria. Was born here. I'm 6th generation. My kin folk settled here on the banks of the Guadalupe river back in 1824 when Texas was still Mexico's northern frontier. We've been here ever since except for a breef period during the war for independence from Mexico. Old great-great grandpa did'nt want his daughters being ravaged by the invading mexican army, so he evacuated his family to New Oreleans, a safe haven at the time, until Santa Anna's defeat by General Sam Houston's Texican Army at San Jacinto. The battle of Goliad was fought just 25 miles southwest of here.

OOPS! didn't mean to get carried away with the history lesson. I'll stop now. lol

You don't happen to know the Doolings, do you? I grew up with them out here in California. They said Victoria was a pretty small town, so I thought I'd take a chance.

Sorry, but not familiar with that name at all.

Victoria was a small town at one time. I remember as a kid the population being somewhere around 15,000. Nowdays it's past 70,000 if not more. It's really grown a lot in the last 15 years.

A few good men

Biltmore Bob, my husband Big T will be part of the gathering, as well. I think that makes at least four men, so you're on safe ground. I also want to commend you for your concerns about propriety. It is a rare man of integrity who has the self-discipline to guard against temptation.

As for the plans, I like Pen Collector's suggestion of meeting in Old Downtown Carrollton on Sunday, and then hitting the State Fair on Columbus Day. My only concern is that several of the shops in O.D.C. might be closed on Sunday. Normally, only the big vintage/antique store and Babe's Chicken are open. But since it's a holiday weekend, several of the other shopkeepers may think it wise to open all three days. Worst case, we all eat our fill at Babe's, buy a few vintage souvenirs, and then head to the movies. ;)

Ruby, are you still taking the lead on putting together firm plans?

Thanks Bing...

Are not you and Big T the couple that were having some dificulties with your Landlord last year or so? I hope that all worked out to your benefit. Well, you know...If it doesn't kill you....and so on.

I wish I had known about this area when I lived in Carrollton,it sounds adorable.
Good food and company,a little antiquing, and a movie sounds like the perfect sunday afternoon.
Since I'm not familiar with the area, would you mind sharing the planning Bing?
You could take Sunday and I'll take Monday.
How's that sound?

Well, I have a friend from Austin coming into town that weekend and if he's able to stay into Monday, he might come with us to the fair. I may also see if my boyfriend can get off work too that day and join us.

Also, anyone who's interested is welcome to come out to the DFW Whip Enthusiasts Whip Weekend, which is where I'll be Saturday and Sunday. We'll be having whip competitions and food (I'm guessing some of you in the Indy crowd may be more interested). If interested, let me know and I can give more details.

Just passing through...

Okay, so I've been totally MIA for the past few weeks (darned day jobs always getting in the way), and haven't had time to do any follow up on our First Annual Texas Retrophile Reunion. Is anyone/everyone still interested?

Most of the shops in Old Downtown Carrollton are closed on Sundays, with the known exception of one (very large) thrift/antique store, and Babe's Chicken. Maybe a couple of the smaller gift stores are open, too. Either way, we could certainly rendezvous at Babe's for a post-church brunch next weekend--maybe around 1 o'clock--take a stroll around the square afterwards to work off the huge portions they serve, and perhaps spend a good hour or two puttering through the stalls at the antique store. (It's one of those shops where people can rent out a few square feet for their mini shop-inside-a-shop and sell their wares on consignment. They've got everything from vintage postcards and magazine ads to clothing, bottles, buttons, furniture, etc.)

Folks could take the rest of Sunday for themselves--or heck, maybe we'll all migrate to dinner together--and then on Monday, we can meet up under Big Tex at the State Fair.

So tell me, loungers, who's in? :p

Hugs & blessings,
The Bingstress

I can't do Sunday but my BF and I plan on being at the Fair on Monday until about 4 or 5:00. What time does everyone want to meet? We may get an early start so we can meet just about anytime I presume.
