According to my observations, the rolls form when the sleeve is long enough for something to pile up. If the sleeves fit exactly, then fewer rolls form. I don't know whether this can be generalised, but that would be my observation.
That's interesting, and it explains why I prefer my sleeves a bit long. Can I ask you, what is the relationship between the curvature of the sleeve and the length required? Why does it seem that this woefully short sleeve still comes close to fitting properly?

Will I have to keep stretching them out to achieve the right length over and over, thereby destroying my precious rolls? This is what I'm worried about.
In my experience stretching them out doesn't affect the rolls that will form over time.

I stretched the sleeves off this Thedi by half an inch. I don't see a lack of rolls:).

@torfjord what's your experience with this, if I remember correctly you also stretched the sleeves of one of your Thedi jackets?

I don't think this is the case. Rolls form when the sleeves of a vegetable tanned leather jacket are bent, they're formed by the the waxes which settle the leather in a certain shape. (Seen on the Thedi shown above).

Again, excellent demonstration. Thank you Marc!

Unfortunately, I don't know.
My bumbling explanation would be that the curve on the outside has more length than measured straight and since the arms usually have a curvature, stovepipes would become shorter due to the arm curvature (always assuming that the material does not stretch with it). The curved sleeves compensate for this because there is more material on the outside.
The shoulder width definitely plays a role and possibly also the type of shoulder (pointed, round, ...).
But as I said, that's just how I explain the world to myself :D

I would like to say the customer service response I've gotten from Denny has been fantastic. I'm really impressed with that, and it makes me feel a lot better about this purchase.
Good to hear. I would consider very carefully though whether I wanted the sleeves to be 2“ longer. They are borderline short but well within reason, noone in the real world would ever give them a second thought. +2“ and they will be almost knuckle-length which imho is WAY too long. I would want no more than an extra inch, maybe less.

yes, correct. I soaked the sleeves with water and stretched it carefully with my hands then hung it to dry over night with weights placed in the sleeves. They stretch 1-2 cm and there are still rolls on the sleeves.

New in town. Interesting. Quite the aggressive tone for someone who hasn't been here long.

Like I said, another inch would have been great. 25.5" would be perfect. See my post above. I'll post photos of the actual length shortly, since my credibility is now in question from someone who has been here so long.

I don't need to justify my emotions to you, newcomer. Welcome.
If the tone was ‘aggressive’ it definitely wasn’t the intention and I certainly wouldn’t question anyones credibility or expect them to justify their emotions.
It was just a genuine enquiry as you initially seemed to be very pleased with the jacket and didn’t seem unduly worried about the sleeve length. However, in a very short time this appeared to completely change, possibly after the comment on sleeve length by one other, to the extent you’re accusing Aero Leather of ‘screwing’ you.
As said previously I thought the sleeves look fine, as do a few others, but obviously it’s your jacket and your money and I do hope you get things resolved to your satisfaction.
I think it’s admirable how Aero Leather has already stepped up to the plate in an effort to find a solution.

Read it and weep. Aero is saying this is how they measure, which is basically around the curve without saying so, and it’s still 1” short. Will see what they say.

Also, cant find my red tape measure that is more legible especially against black but this one works. Had to tape it to the precise spot aero requires so as to be fully transparent.

exactly, it says "completely flat"
Says nothing about a table. And I can’t see how it makes no difference. Either way, this is woefully short of 26”. I’m not remeasuring this 50 times over an 8th of an inch. I have a job and three kids and this is getting ridiculous. Aero told me in emails to do it hanging.

Holy moly the stretch actually worked! I still maintain that a discrepancy of over an inch is unacceptable but if the sleeves can manage to stay close to this long I’ll be happy. I have weirdly long arms which really helps me in sparring but is a real pet peeve with jacket sleeve length.

Maybe the sleeves were just cold, you know?

Alls well that ends well. I feel like I hit the jacketpot! So to speak.

. Thank you @Marc mndt
That man always delivers!

Work it out with Aero to get your replacement jacket with longer sleeves in a timely matter.

Great jacket btw.
I stretched the sleeves and they feel great now! Whew! Grateful to Marc for the suggestion. Would have never occurred to me. You learn something new every day!

When you specify 26" you should have gotten 26".

But.... 26" would have been way too long imo.

Also, why focus on a number when the sleeve length feels good. As you said yesterday: "Why do they fit even though they are short of the specified measurement by 2” then?".

There's a never ending discussion here on TFL about sleeve length, the only conclusion that can be drawn is that it depends on personal preferences.

Personally I think the sleeve length on your Aero is spot on. They're the same length or even slightly longer than the sleeves on my Regius. Nobody here on TFL or elsewhere commented that the sleeves on my Regius look too short and I personally I wouldn't want them to be any longer.

If you'd feel better when the sleeves on you Aero are slightly longer than why not stretch them out a bit, that's relatively easy to do since it's vegetable tanned leather. It's probably not what you prefer to do on a brand new jacket but by stretching them you won't have to send the jacket back to Aero (good point on saving the environment).

But first have a look at these guys, I don't think any of them were worrying about the sleeve length of their jackets.

I used to be obsessed about sleeve length until I saw an old post from you where you said you don't worry about it too much. There wide variance between makers and styles it seems.

I think the Aero looks great Kblake.
