How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

Langlitz Columbia finally arrived today!

First impression- they nailed it!

I’ll have to figure out where I like the waist laces, but other than that it just needs some use and abuse. Leather is quite stiff and so are the zippers. Movement is easy due to the sorta oversized top end. @Carlos840 was right about doing yoga in it, and mine isn’t even broken in! See below for demonstration at the expense of my dignity :D

This is a standard Columbia modified with no action back and square cut back bottom.

Here are some terrible pics, I’ll aim for a more complete review post down the line.

You nailed it Frown !!

What a beautiful Columbia! I think it looks great and I think that some extra room up top is necessary to allow for movement, especially without the action back.
Only you can decide what is too much room for you and so I think you should wear the hell out of it for a couple weeks and see if it settles down and molds to your shape. I am almost positive that this is what Langlitz is going to recommend as well. That is what they told me when my first Columbia came out a bit too tight and I followed their guidance. In the end I did choose a remake and they lived up to their guarantee 100%.

You were completely correct.

They said this happens a lot and recommended breaking it in and checking back in a few months.

So that’s what I’ll do!

3rd from Langlitz? One of the reasons I’ve avoided the temptation with them and ordering a sidewinder is they seem to miss/ oversize as a rule, rather than the exception.
Not always Ton, both of my Langlitz jackets (Columbia and straight zip Cascade) were made too tight the first time around. Not so tight that I couldn’t zip them, in fact they both looked great in photos, but tight enough to give me that leather corset sensation that I couldn’t live with.

I’m eager to see how this works out. I think the jacket looks great as is and the nice thing about the Langlitz guarantee is that you can follow up with them a couple months from now and they will do what it takes to make sure you are satisfied with your jacket.

@Mrfrown and @El Marro, how did you find the measuring process? Did you schedule a video consultation? I placed my deposit in March. I still need to get my measurements over to Langlitz.

I was impressed by the thoroughness of the measuring process, i.e. how many measurements they collected at different parts of the arms and torso. However I was not so impressed when both of my jackets arrived too tight through the midsection despite the fact that I had requested a relaxed fit both times.
They did not offer a video consultation when I placed my orders but I think that sounds like a great idea and I would take advantage of this option if I were you.
@hondurasdave47 I know that you have your fair share of leather jackets already and you might take some measurements off the ones that you particularly like and provide those to Langlitz, P2P and bottom hem for instance. I know this is not how they typically work but if they had that baseline going in it might help them to nail the fit. More likely they will just think you are an annoying jacket nerd…

After my first few failed attempts i sent pics of jackets with measurements and told them what i wanted. I was also making slight changes to previous jackets they built so i think they used that info more. Scott was great regarding my pics sent and details. First jacket based just on numbers sent the arms were huge and long and shoulders too wide. I think the trim looking jackets online are either spec tight/trim OR try on was done in shop and then they just adjust those base specs for the custom build. @hondurasdave47

I would take advantage of the video consultation.

My wife measured me, and I think we did pretty good with everything. However, we did gave to re-measure the back and neck to get them right after Scott asked me to confirm them. We were a little off since it was hard to tell where on the neck to start for both. The consultation would probably help eliminate that issue.

It also helped that I had knowledge of back lengths that work for me, I sent some pics to Scott of the back of my JL vest and my Comet with their stated back lengths for comparison, it helped them to nail it. Would it have helped to do that for every measurement? Dunno. I wanted to let them take the lead in the process...as I didn't want to come off as an annoying jacket nerd lol. Also, they know their stuff and have been very thoughtful along the way

here is my "conspiracy" theory : they ask so many measurements of your body just to hype up how unique they are, but they never use those measurements(except the basic ones like weight and height), that's why we see so many failed examples.

Wait what?! Video consultation is an option? After I sent Scott the order form, he had a few more questions so then I sent him photos of me being measured and body shots. Which would've been much easier if it were over the video chat.
When I first contacted Langlitz I asked for an off rack jacket they had in stock, hoping for immediate delivery and maybe a deal on price, but I was told everything was custom order, no off rack jackets. That their customer usually walk in to get measured (in Oregon and in Japan store) and then the jacket is cut to those numbers.
I would recommend using the video chat if that's an option. I would've done that if I had known it was available.

I think it’s fair to say you prefer a looser fit in general….but I also think it’s easier to diagnose a jacket that fits feeling too small vs one that fits too large. If something is too tight in the shoulders, chest, waist for example…that will never change, regardless of wear, it will always be too tight.
Oversized stuff is easier to live with. You won’t fight it, and there’s always “good for layers” which is the fight song of a jacket that is too big. We’ve all danced both sides of this dance. Ultimately though, and almost without fail, the first feeling of “Feels too…x,y,z” means it is. In Mr. Frowns case that feeling will not get better when the jacket relaxes and loses it’s stiff shape. It will get worse and feel just as large, but more blousy. The Langlitz below looks like an ideal fit, touch short, still has cannon sized sleeves, but looks more fitted and how a proper cross zip should:

I think Frown could expect the same trim fit without sacrificing mobility and given the price paid, demand it.

I'm not sure when they started it, but looks like they added the info somewhat recently to their website.
