Where do you find the padded X-zips? I must be searching all wrong. Great find. Beautiful jacket.
i was wondering the same and eventually gave up on waiting for a jacket my size to come around lol
Thanks! This Cal showed up by surprise in one of my daily searches without typing any word, just searching in the proper category. In this case, in a Japanese site. There's any tag inside, so sellers (as you know) usually describe these no-name jacket as "unknown", "vintage", "used" or "double riders". The listing was recently posted when I spotted it, so after double-checking the measurements, took it.

fantastic. please post pics when you get.
Asap I get it! In fact, I still have to take some fitting photos of all my jackets.

This gonna be my 4th Cal, if I keep going down this path I'll have as many Cals as some of you, guys!:)

Lol, I couldn't believe it either you got another one! I am constantly looking, too, never saw a single one appear ever (for me, obviously) and you got three!

There’s a kickback in it for you if you find one with a 24” or so P2P. I’m in the same boat @Monitor is in. I never even see one, let alone one in my size. And trust me, I look.

Ok, I pick up the gauntlet! I will let you know @JMax if I find a 24" p2p padded Cal. @Monitor, are you a size 40? @Jin431, what's your size?

As I'm really happy with the quality of my first Shangri-La Heritage suede Trucker which is made in Italy and as I'm looking for something different I'm seriously considering thie Varenne Desert Navajo wool jacket but two things do concern me:
1) Why is this jacket more expensive than their leather jackets (875€). It has veg tanned lambskin applications and probably the wool knitting (by hand?) is more time consuming
2) If I still like this special jacket in a couple of years

What do you guys think?

1. For the same reason Philipp Plein jacket costs as much as it does. Brand name, quality material, it's not mass produced, small outfit, etc. - Whether it's worth the money is up to you but in terms of molecular structure, you ain't buying nothing someone else ain't selling for less. I've seen a lot of very similar looking jackets floating about on Aliexpress, all relatively cheap at $200 or so.

Plus what you said; Creating a well woven woolen fabric is a lot more time consuming than throwing a dead animal skin sunk into a barrel filled with chemicals. Meat industry being what it is, there's an abundance of leather on the market so it could be argued they're actually saving on the production costs with all the leather bits incorporated into the jacket.

2. Lol well, that's something only you will know the answer to. I personally really love this piece & would love to own it.

Awesome, I love it. I own a couple of Navajo inspired RRL shirts t-shirts and sweaters and I wear them a lot.
Why is this jacket more expensive than their leather jackets

A quality knit is easily more expensive than Tuscan lamb skin (which isn't all that expensive, as compared to hh for example)

Many thanks to all for your honest feedback. The quality of the fabric looks quite good and the lining and stitching quality I do already know from my Trucker jacket - on par with Aero I would say. The pattern may look good or too intense as highlighted by @Bfd70 and @handymike If I knew that it would look as good as on the model I would buy it despite the fact that it’s quite expensive (probably worth the money). I‘ll definitely sleep a couple of nights on it before I take a decision. The MF Kilim ones are also quite nice but then I’m having another leather jacket and the Shangri-La one would be something totally different which none really offers (at least I haven’t seen it before).
Thanks again for your advice!
Cheers,
Robbie

The quintessential example of a spectacular jacket that I would exalt when worn by someone else, but I would never attempt to wear it (unless I wanted to keep my wife at a distance).

Reminds me of this new RRL:

I am confused by this - Is it painted leather?

I think the guy in the picture is trying way too hard to look resolute and I like the jacket a lot.
