How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

Local taxes are not (at least they shouldn’t) charged when exporting.

So Eastman will charge you the price ex UK VAT and then you’ll pay VAT and custom duties/fees to the Dutch authority. This is assuming a WTO style deal. A lot of EU online stores normally quote prices both with and without VAT. It’s common practise.

I’m not entirely sure what the Brexit arrangements are though. It might also be that the UK will join soonish the EEA like Norway etc and so it’ll be all the same. Too early to tell but there will be some disruption in the short term.

I think no one is absolutely sure how it’s going to pan out. For me living in Scotland there is still plenty of choice between new UK makers and second hand jackets on the eBay UK site.

Can't wait to see your new creation. I'm sure it is gonna rock. I notice you are getting it made in CXL? Is that from Horween? Did they mention anything about their next comp. weight leather? Hopefully Vanson can weather this storm.

It is Horween CXl, the same batch that was used to make the "Gold standard" Left Field Commando (as pictured in my previous post). It is a little bit thinner than what Aero uses, closer to 3oz than 3.5oz.
Apparently after making the 20 (not sure if 20 is total or per size) jackets from the run they had enough left for a couple jackets.
I asked them if they would agree to make a custom commando for me with some of it, they said "sure, if Chirstian says yes", Christian at Left Field said yes and we got started.
It was really a fun project, i got to mix and match all the features i liked from the Commando, Chopper and J-82, I actualy had Theresa (the woman who designed the Vanson Commando) on Facetime, designing the pattern in real time as we spoke about it.

I spoke with them about the current leather and i think they are doing the best they can with what is available to them. A lot of tanneries are closing, the guy who used to wax their leather retired, their last two tanneris went down, but i think they are doing ok and pushing forward.
From what i heard there is no change planned regarding the comp weight.
The X150 is in final testing phase.

That’s awesome bud. Really cool. I spoke with Christian years ago when I ordered my Commando. Cool dude. And he rides a kick ass Norton I believe.

Incoming :

1) Eastman Californian in black
2) Y2 roughout type II
3) Chinese canvas / leather type II

The above jacket is obviously inspired by Thedi's canvas/leather shawl collar. Normally, I'm not interested in buying knockoffs but this one is just loosely inspired by the original so I thought I'd give it a go.
@Marc mndt Congrats. I like all of them and I’m curious about the Chinese type II. Looking forward to your review. Is the Eastman new or second hand, also in terms of import tax from UK?

Sounds like you had a great time with Vanson. I can't wait to see it. Hopefully you get a speedy and error free delivery. Thanks for the inside scoop on Vanson. I am actually kinda glad they are finding a new source for their competition weight leather. The model E I received was a big let down. I was going to list it in the classifieds, but would of felt bad selling it to a member, so I gave it to my brother.

@Mich486 I think you Are Right as far as Eastman is concerned but for instance it doesn’t apply to Greg Fields as he has a special agreement that he currently doesn’t need to add VAT (he told me that about 2 weeks ago). In other words VAT is added when importing his jackets (in my case 19%) unless he reduces the total amount on commercial invoices (insurance value is also lower then which bears risk)

Robbie, but you have to pay German customs, right?

No, as far as I know it’s kind of a Free Trade agreement and I would have to pay import tax (German VAT = 19%) unless they amended their agreement in the last 2 days as I hardly Followed detailed news

I admittedly didn’t read the details of the Brexit trade deal with the EU but it is against common sense to assume the customer will end up paying VAT twice both in UK and in the importing country to the local tax authority.

Local taxes like the VAT are normally not charged when exporting but only charged to local customers. For instance, when buying from Japan the 10% japanese sale tax is waived for international customers (of course you still pay it if you use a proxy). You get hit with custom fees and other applicable taxes by your own country. Typically in EU these are the VAT plus other fees.

Yes, true, and I made the Same experience but Greg confirmed the no UK VAT will be deducted from the jacket price when shipping to EU countries as he also does not pay UK VAT (small company with small turnover probably)
