I've got a late "40's-early '50's Field & Stream/Gordon-Ferguson black jacket due this Friday. Some time ago I bought a very similar jacket from Terry M. and loved it, but it was just a trifle small, so I'm going to be moving it on. The hide on this one looks very similar to the first one, which Terry thought might be Capeskin. I'll try posting some photos, as I'd like to hear some ideas about this kind of hide: it could be lambskin, but it's very grainy yet light. The original is in the Classifieds under "Winner's Garment."

I stumbled accross this and I just couldn't help myself.

Aero Veste de Rallye from the good ol' "we use 4,5-5 oz steerhide at Aero"-times. The leather shows heavy grain, on some panels more than on others. It is in overall fairly new condition, there's still no brown showing through the black topcoat as it occurs on black clx usually with wear, so the leather hasn't seen too much wear. The tartan lining is damaged at a few parts at the hem, which is no big deal, because it's only a small spot, not visible when worn and there's a second lining underneath, blue cotton I think. This lovely beasts weighs in at roughly 12 lbs, twice as heavy as most my other jackets. Fun, fun :D

And a patch too. Haven’t forgotten you!

This week I placed my order for my very first fine leather jacket: an Aero 1930's Half Belt with the August collar in brown CXL FQHH. The lining is Beaters Grey Shetland Tweed from Lochcarron of Scotland.

I got some great advice here, and then I worked with Carrie at Thurston Bros. to figure out the custom fit. I ended up calling her twice, asking a million questions and changing my mind about various details. Her patience was endless, and she was extremely helpful. I feel confident that the fit will be right when my jacket arrives. Looks like I'll get it some time in July. since Aero is less busy in the summer.

Got to say, I'm pretty excited. I'm sure many of you here remember how you felt as you waited for your first custom jacket.

There will be pictures, of course. That's a promise.

I get excited for every purchase to arrive but when they finally do I’m almost reluctant and slow to open the box because I’m worried it won’t be perfect....

I know exactly what you mean. I did get a '30s Half Belt in the right size as my fit jacket, but we're shortening the length of the jacket and the sleeves, and tapering the waist by an extra inch. Even the feel of the leather will be different: My fit jacket was Vicenza and I'm getting CXL FQHH, which I understand will be heavier and stiffer (at first, at least.) So I only have a vague idea of how it will actually fit and feel and look. I followed all of Carrie's suggestions, so I'm pretty confident it's going to be great, yet there is definitely a level of uncertainty.

I know the feeling. The great thing about Aero's jackets is that they are one of the very few things you can buy today that actually exceed your expectations. I have only the one that I bought in 2011, but I still get a rush every time I put it on. I'm heading up north next week and can't wait to wear it. All the best.

Need assistance! Don't think this warrants a thread and this one being somewhat related, since I might end up having another jacket on the way, figured it's the place to ask.

There's a jacket on eBay I REALLY am interested in (and can't live without and all that...) but the seller doesn't ship outside the UK so... Anyone from the UK willing to lend me a hand with the shipping? :) It'd all be within the EU. That, of course, is provided I win the auction in the first place, which I don't think is very likely but doesn't hurt to cover the bases. Some of them, at least. Thanks!!

I'm currently in Beijing, but will be back in Blighty on Saturday night. Shoot me a pm if that's any help...

Nice piece. I like how the back panels are showing different graining - gives it a look much closer the original jackets I've seen than where everything is too perfectly matched, if you follow. The inside pockets in the lining are now something you wouldn't see in an Aero - those alone must date it to pre-September 2012 or so. Lovely find. In the past I've not been overly keen on these mid length jackets, but it's a look that's really growing on me. I'm seeing it worn with an ivory submariner and a wide, 30s-style cap...

Ooops...
I just bought a cross-zip:

Nice design. Any details? I would guess German, possibly early 50s. Main zipper pull might be a later replacement, but can't quite tell from the photo. Looking forward to seeing pics of this being worn. Makes me think an Aero Bootlegger with a scalloped yoke could be pretty cool...

I was just recapping my current interests and here what it looks like:

- 1 currently ordered jacket (long term)
- 1 jacket about to be ordered
- 1 jacket in talks

Then there are the list of what I am lusting after:

- 1 for the design (buttons)
- 1 for the type (longer, maybe a trench)
- 1 for the warmth (maybe shearling)
- 1 specifically for riding (thinking about Lewis Leathers)

There are a few others as well, this is getting quite excessive... how about you guys?
One on the way - Fortune Hunter
One just ordered - Kelso Aeronaut A-1 with some custom stuff
One just received - Eastman Hartman Luftwaffe (which I LOVE)...

I guess I am lucky. My first real purchase was a jacket from a forum member and it fits nearly perfect. Better fit than anything I have ever owned and I have kept most of those purchases.
