How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

My second Langlitz arrived today, it fits and feels even better than my Cascade, I start to think you cannot spend your money any better on leather than on a used Langlitz on the bay.. they go for as low as 600 USD which is a complete steal for the quality they are. Will post pictures later.

This will be used to ride when the temps are way too warm for a jacket.

I'm always tickled by the concept of a sleeveless riding jacket.... but that's coming from a climate where the idea of it ever being warm enough that you could stand the breeze at even a relatively sedate 30mph with no sleeves is an alien notion!

Funny, I am also looking for a “travel vest”. This one has enough interior pockets to do the job but much of my travel is to areas where a nice leather vest would lead to a mugging or worse. Or I am in some remote area where I would not consider taking this vest. Thinking a denim or canvas vest, I am open to recommendations.

The easiest option, I suppose, is an el cheapo Type III jacket, liberated from its sleeves (assuming it's like mine was, years ago, with four inside pockets... not owned one since then, so). I'd certainly recommend a 40s-style half-moon vest, though - some of the best ones I've seen have been by Hepville in Germany. You'll find him over on Etsy - https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Hepville?ref=search_shop_redirect . Bela is a one-man operation, does nice stuff. I hae a few of his eight panel caps, and hope to get some of hid vests in future. He does a wholed wack of different pocket variations on them (and you can order a custom version too). I quite like this one, with the parger patch pockets as well as the big, half-moon ones (which can easily fit at least a novel each side, and aren't particularly accesscible to pickpockets, at least certainly less so, imo, than regular pockets). I'm sure you could specifiy internal pockets too:

Hepville

He does them in all sort of fabric as well - the tweed since, though for warmer climates, I rather fancy brown duck canvas. I think mostly they seem to come in around GBP150ish or under, which compares very favourably to the Japanese stuff.

I’m in the dangerous between jackets period at the moment, my last was a cordovan Bootlegger around six weeks ago. I have to be careful looking at pictures on this site and on instagram, it’s like there’s a bug going around and I have to be extra careful not to pick it up. I have no idea what my next jacket might be, it’ll probably jump out at me from this website when I’m not expecting it and start tormenting me, ‘Buy me, buy me, you can always sell one of the jackets you don’t wear so much, sure, you'll only get half what you paid for it but I'm the one...’

I'd love to see pictures of the shearling lined hwy mn. While too late for this winter, i'm planning a shearling lined coat for next. I'm leaning toward a long 1/2 belt but also change my mind often. I have a terrible mind for design and will gladly copy other peoples good taste.

There is no avoiding it. And no cure.

Meanwhile...

"I'm dreaming of a brown Christmas...with lots of CXL hide...May my days be oil pulled and sewn tight...and may all your Christmas's be heavy hide..."
LOL. Better get here soon. Getting weird.

I know exactly what you mean Dub. I thought that I had bought my last jacket (for a good long while anyway) until we had a run of nice new Thedis that popped up here in rapid succession. Next thing you know I have a Thedi on order...

Hey @Woodyear, and @Monitor, I am just digging up old posts re. dying jackets. Getting ready for a go at it. Monitor, did you ever dye any of yours? Woodyear, I can't find a product called Fieblings Redolent, but I did see references to Fieblings Resolene. Same stuff?

I was thinking of starting a thread on Dying Leather Jackets. What do you think? Also, do either of you know a good YouTube source for this?

Also, Monitor, as beautiful as is your jacket that started out as raw naked leather, in response to my new
Schott trucker, do you think it would be a shame to dye it black, or should I do a treatment with pecards, and wear it to get the natural patina that we all love? Thanks for your advice.

Peace.

Jonesy, yes the stuff is called “Resolene”. My autocorrect changed it to redolent and by the time i saw my mistake I could no longer edit the post.

I'm coming up on 23 months (I just looked at deposit time and emailed about how much longer) of waiting for GW. It would take a lot to get me off my Arcadia in black pick. Planning on trying on a Thedi button up soon, not sure if the offset button look is for me or not. Waiting to hear back from Tenjin about their leather Workshirt, when they might start production again and price. I've only one jacket now and the above would take me home. I've posted a picture of the Workshirt undyed with two years patina.

Will do as you said! Thank you very much, Woodyear. It should still be a good month until the dye arrive so I've time to plan things ahead. The jacket is full aniline leather, as naked as it gets and it's got no shine at all. Mate gray. I think it's a very high quality leather and even though it does get soaked in the rain, it dries up super quickly without any signs it was ever wet. Even so, I don't mind the jacket is full black. As it is, it kinda looks almost like a textile and I'm not a big fan of that.

If you need some Resolene DM me, it's a little to glossy for the belts I make. I use several coats of Tandy Super Sheene for a waterproof topcoat over a color finish that's sensitive to water so the bottle of Fiebing's is going to waste just sitting here..

@jonesy86 , still waiting for the thing to arrive, no news yet.

@Dickie Teenie Man, that'd be just it what I'd need. Something to make the jacket shiny - or glossier than it is, at least. That'd make it perfect... Didn't know about this product. :D

Hey @Woodyear, just got the Fieblings oil based black pro dye, resolene, cotton swabs. Gonna clean it off with isopropyl alcohol, do 2 coats of dye, and finish with resolene acrylic. Turn my cheap Gap trucker black from brown. Wish me luck. Thanks, for the tips!

Any time my friend. Also make sure you protect the hardware from the dye, it will even dye the metal though I’m sure you could remove it later with some alcohol or acetone.

First off...Merry Christmas everyone!

Currently have two jackets on order from Thurston Bros. both were ordered in early November 2017 and Carrie advised that there would be about a 10-12 week wait, so I'm patiently waiting!

No. 1: 30s Half Belt in blackened brown Vicenza with antique brass hardware. No top yoke, full action back and two button cuff. OD green sateen lining and contrast stitching. Single chest pocket on right side with severe slant. Single interior pocket, left chest.

No. 2: Board Racer in dark seal Vicenza with antique brass hardware. Shoulder gussets. No top yoke, no lower back panel. Center vertical seam from collar to bottom hem. Single chest pocket on right side with severe slant. Pocket zippers closed in down position. OD green sateen lining and stitching.

Both ordered with smoothest grain available. Both with a slight taper.

Re the Board Racer: Carrie advised that because of the unusual back configuration it may not be doable, however since I haven't heard from her since I placed the order, I'm hopeful that it can be done!
