How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

Hi Woodyear

Probably good advice. Thanks. I just canceled a ebay impulse buy of a Chevignon jacket that Monitor posted. It had a broken zipper hand on the zipper pull. Plus I realize that a 44 P to p would be very tight on my 42 chest, even though this is the style on many motorcycle jackets. I like them a bit looser. My Thedi Cafe Racer is a 44 p to P, not going to get rid of it as it is such a beautiful leather and really fine craftsmanship. It is tight though. But that is the style I think. The leather on the Chevgnon looked really beautiful and had not heard of Chevignon, so I figured why not go for it, as the seller came down in price for only $100. Plus the sleeves were long enough for a change. Total impulse buy. The seller was very cooperative.

Yeah I have gotten a bit obsessive, but haven't made too many mistakes. All done pretty quickly, but have a pretty nice collection.

A few are going away for Christmas presents. I have 2 brothers just about the same size. I'm having fun. Not much else going on right now but work.

I wil slow down though. Good advice.

Thanks

Something to consider might be simply opting for a full blown custom jacket, rather than spending tons of cash on those made for others. That way you can get all your measurements in a row and avoid the fits here, doesn't fit here sceanario. Plus, at least for me, when I have a custom on order I'm less inclined to make rash decisions about something I know is less than optimal fit wise. I think you've amassed a nice collection in a short period of time but a reoccurring theme of too short in the sleeves, etc can be resolved by simply being patient (not simple, I know) and getting something made for you. Just a thought. As you grow into your jackets you might find a style that you want dialed in exactly to your specs.

I have an Aero Redskin D-1 in the works. I ordered one from the in stock page at Thurston. The waist was too tight. So I sent it back with my measurements and now the waiting game begins!

I still took a fit pic. Every other measurement was perfect for me: shoulders, pits, sleeve, and back. Side shot only as the front could barely be zipped up...so, no point in showing that.

Thanks for the advice. I am talking to a company that does movie retros, and actual costume jackets.

https://www.black-leatherjacket.com/Al-Pacino-Leather-Jacket

Their Al-Pacino Jacket is made of cow leather. But not too much other info on the sizing.

Anyone ever heard of them?

^ that is I'm afraid a costume grade jacket, non comparable to your other jackets so far. better stick with those reputable makers imo.

nothing wrong with cowhide, but that style of jacket need a lot of cowhide, and even in 3rd world country where I live, I still pay more than that price directly to the jacket maker. so there must be things where they cut corners.

Run away it will be garbage these companies are a dime a dozen, I made the mistake of buying a jacket from a similar company before I found the lounge it went into the bin a long time a go, think worse than a mall jacket and that’s what you may end up with

One thing to look out for with those movie repo jacket makers is they almost never post pics of their actual jacket, just screenshots of the movie....huge red flag!

You may as well just throw your cash in the bin and save some time.

I have a battered tan teamster w corduroy lining, colder weather jacket. On thanksgiving, my highwayman in dark seal vicenza w olive sateen lining shipped from aero to thurston bros, my year round type jacket.

I am preplanning next one, a short button up aero. Thinking aeromarine or mulligan in red fox cow steer. This would be completely different look than the other two.

Love to know anyone's thoughts on a third choice.

thx!

A little off subject, but I used to do the same thing with my professional Chefs knife collection. I would use the lousy ones at work in case some one stole one of tried to open can and broke the tip off. I realized that I had all these really expensive and very high quality knives at home collecting dust in storage. Finally took my beaters and gave them away to my students, and took my best knives to work, and love using them so much more, I don't know what I was thinking. Why have them if you don't use them.

While I am patiently waiting to find a deal on a Chevignon, Lee Trevor, Cooper Sportswear or Wested, is this another cr#@py costume jacket? Ever heard of this company?

Thanks to you all for you patience in teaching me about this rabbit hole.

Looked quickly at the link sorry crap save your $$$ once you dip your toes into the likes of Aero and so forth you won’t be happy with this made in Pakistan rubbish which I think is where all these movie jacket websites drop ship from

Just picked up a very nice looking Flight Apparel Industries G1 off eBay for about £150. Not an exact repro, but has all the correect details and looks to be in very good condition. Plus, the collar is shaped more like one you'd see on an M422a which is a bit different.

Thanks. Kinda what I figured. I have some pretty nice jackets. The SB Memphis is one of my favorites, the texture on that black Shinki is really beautiful. Just keep trying to go cheap. Still learning.

Great looking jacket. Giving serious consideration to trading my ANJ-4 for one.
