How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

I generally focus on key points I am looking for the next jacket and leave the rest to the maker. As long as you know your maker you will never get disappointed. We are lucky we can take control of what we want and leave the rest if we're not sure

I have chosen D-rings for the side buckles. I agree that it's best to match the side tabs hardware with hardware on the rest of the jacket. Its great fun to do a full customized jacket but I have to admit that its also somewhat stressful, having to make choices on every little detail. I think Ive changed the placement and angle of the handwarmer pockets 3 times after sharing my design sketch with Greg.

ooh I love options the more the better. I rarely have handwarmers on my jacket, but from just one hand warmer on my leather jacket and few on my denim jacket, the angle of it may affect how they eventually gape open when you wear the jacket, the closer to vertical the less gaping it is, and the closer to 45 degree, the more it will gape open once worn in... just based on my very limited experience.

Agreed, I think its good to leave certain things up to the maker, he knows best.
Since this is going to be a one off jacket with everything custom, Greg is going to make a mock-up jacket in cotton for me to try on to see how different design elements, jacket measurements and my body dimensions work together as a whole. If I'm not happy with anything, it can still be altered.

probably then better if this mock up jacket have fake pocket welts probably secured with double tape to the jacket, so you can play around with it while trying the jacket on.

I have been thinking about a strap too. I had a jacket with a cuff strap but every time i put the jacket on the strap moves to the cuff opening and I had to put in back in place. However, that was a cow leather jacket : View attachment 252132
Does anybody have experience with cuff straps in horsehide? (More sturdy leather?)

Cuff straps are common on 30s era jackets. Some seem more ornamental than functional. They all have a cool look to me. I usually set mine and leave them alone.

I don't know if I have Snap cuff jackets from the 30s, but I have snap closures on 30s jacket pockets.

The 30s jackets were not the heavy leather of today. I do have cuff straps on my 4+ Test. They work. The Test is a repro of a 30s era jacket

I would use a buckle that does not require holes

I almost feel like the number of choices we have these days can be a bad thing. You can be paralyzed by the number of options. How many different types o animal hides, the tanning process, any special coatings and additional treatments,the color the style, the hardware, the fit. We now live in a place where thats all possible. Plus then it makes us spend more. Back in the day from like 30s-60s people bought one or two and wore them as needed. Of course theres always collectors but not like now. Now we can have perfectly fine even great jackets and we get bored, want to try the newest this or that, convince ourselves the fit isnt right. Im all for choices and its a beautiful thing, but on the other hand it causes ocd, a lot of money, and sometimes complete paralysis caused by choice overload haha

Depends whether you let this overwhelm you or not. Personally I know what I like, so I am not distracted by many options which I can easily ignore. Back in the 1940's leather jackets were not custom as a rule and often just hanging up in department stores like today's softshells. My dad who is 97 bought one or two this way and told me the only thought you put into a leather jacket was 'long or short and does it fit?' I personally think people's boredom with jackets as you describe it is probably more about control and consumerism than it is about the jackets.

Great looking jacket! That Racer made an impact back in the days, I remember how huge it was when Schott released a repro, and it was great looking one. Restoration dude was ahead of the time.

well, looks like he was smart enough to ask Schott to make a J-100 repro. Schott going a step further in period correctness and removing the liner. Talon zippers are a nice touch though

He was wearing a Buco J100 at the time, it generated some energy and I think Schott approached him to do a copy.

Dont disagree. I know what I like now and what works for me. First getting into this "hobby" it was overwhelming though. Just finding so many different brands, styles and options. I freely admit that overwhlemed. Doing this now for a while I figured out what I like and how to do it.

For once, instead of getting another leather jacket I'll look to replace a week later, figured I'd try something new. How much will I wear them, I don't know but I always wanted these Aero's 60's trousers so... Why not.

Although I rarely wear them, I had a bunch of leather trousers before, still got two pairs that I considered heavyweight but they're literally a joke compared to these.

These are the heaviest, sturdiest leather pants I've seen and I know you're thinking you know what to expect if you've ever bought an Aero, but it still comes as a shock.

Anyway, the trousers are styled as a standard British 60's to 70's motorcycle trousers. This particular pair fits me well. Not baggy at all as the product description would suggest. They're just right.

Can't get over how well they're made. Fancy construction all around. Built and overbuilt like a tank. Honestly, I don't think ANYONE makes mc jeans that are nearly as sturdy and right now I want... No, I need the Jeans as well.
