How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

This arrived the day I set off on holiday, but after I'd gone. I haven't had chance to wear it yet of course, because the UK has boiled away to nothing recently, but nonetheless.

Also, it's >gasp< not leather, and it's a modern retro styler, so I imagine minimal interest. But w'ev, it's waxed cotton and armoured, and IT FITS.

Although I haven't got any fit pics, yet...

Well I've dropped my GW order after 31 months (sent email a month ago-haven't heard back), my name could come up next week and I wouldn't regret my decision. Next up, no jackets but I'm going into a long wait on some barrels of Whiskey I'm having crafted to my specs at a state of the art distillery just opened up by the original owner of Tempelton Rye.

Did you actually get an answer from him after asking for a refund?
I considered doing the same thing, but since i am going on 8 months and 4 emails unanswered it felt like a waste of time to ask for a refund!
Maybe that's his technique, ignore all emails until you ask for a refund, and then answer and get rid of you?

I have NO previous knowledge , nor information on "authenticity" of the type.

I'm just hoping it don't drown me as it's a 46 , or an "L".. 44 or "L" fits me well in Schott and Vanson

It's from Held. It's their Sixty Six jacket. It's a motorcycle jacket with heavyweight waxed cotton outer, waterproof membrane, included CE approved shoulder and elbow armour and a velcro pocket for a back protector.

It's really lovely, actually. It comes in black or khaki (like mine) or black/white. Really well thought-out and put together, with snap adjusters on the waist and cuffs and upper arm for correct fit, as well as a ton of zipped pockets, and a zip to connect to trousers.

They're ~£200, but mine was an eBay bargain.

I haven't ridden in it yet, but all the armour is readily removable leaving it looking like a regular biker-y jacket, which looks acceptably casual with jeans.

I'm pretty impressed.

Received Langlitz catalog today, it's too expensive for top grain cowhide, I know thier reputation, but more than 1k for just top grain cowhide?

maybe they are just being honest by label it as top grain, all leather that start out smooth in texture or pigment coated to be water proof are top grain most likely.

What do you mean, just cowhide? Langlitz leather is great stuff. Very tough yet pliable and develops beautiful grain. Also, you don't pay just for leather when you buy a jacket. My Langlitz jackets are the best-made jackets I own. Range of Motion, taper through the body, different options for shoulder form, etc. And if you go with Langlitz, they will make sure you are happy with the fit, no compromises. I even heard of cases where they remade jackets from the ground for unhappy customers.

I prefer horsehide over cowhide, and horsehide is indeed more expensive than cowhide. Yes, I heard that story, they remade a jackrt within few days.

Held make some nice stuff. I like the colour of this one. There have been a lot of these shorter wax-cotton jackets made in this style since Belstaff brought out the Mojave; I believe there's a distinct Steve Macqueen influence in the mix there.

That's not true. It is wastage that makes a horsehide jacket more expensive to produce, and that marginally (40 pounds).

As one of the elite member here, I believe you can easily distinguish the cowhide and horsehide. Even I can.

When new it is not possible to distinguish the two hides from each other, given the tanning process is similar. After many months of wear you might get an idea because of the grain.

Wish I could but nope, I seriously can't. I thought I could years ago, back when I would read all that stuff about how you can easily tell them apart because horsehide is stiffer, shinier, etc. while cowhide is... Thicker? Softer? I can't even remember anymore. And then the whole Storse scandal shattered my whole world to pieces.

Anyone actually working with leather will tell you that the only way to know for sure is to do a DNA analysis. This one guy in the business that used to post here, even made experiments to prove you can't distinguish between the two.

It all comes down to tanning. Most tanneries will process the hides differently, to make a separate product with unique properties out of each - which is the only reason why the internet believes it is possible to distinguish horsehide from cowhide - but in reality, both hides could easily be skimmed and tanned to appear identical.

So right now, I don't even bother to check the tag anymore.
