How do folks react to your hat wearing?

Went to the market with my gf this morning. She went dressed 'stop'm dead in their tracks' so I changed in something smart too.
First thing a cuppa in the sun at he town square. The moment I stepped inside to say good morning: 'WOW!! Peter, I like your hat!'
After finishing the drinks we dropped of a bread order at the for here high end furniture & stuff shop where we were both inundated with compliments. At the side of the counter there was a simple, VERY elegant cane/umbrella stand holding one lonely tapered wood cane with inlaid ball. The prices were still in pesetas and even those were docked: I was given both by my gf
Not a nearly proper walking aid though... but that is a different thread.
The compliments were a theme for the rest of the shopping.
Rounding of with another visit to the terrace, the waiter enquired about the hat stand. I took the cane out so he could take a look at the stand. It follows that I was standing aside with my hat on, cane and all. He was literally short for words before he managed to express his appreciation of the appearantly stunning combo of hat & cane.

Huertecilla, as I read about your experiences in your town, in my mind I'm always visualizing every detail of it as if I'm literally there, lol. I love hearing about your adventures!

Enjoy it while you can as I may not be here much longer. Either voluntarily or involuntarily. I will pm you my email direction. I am off to ´The Hat Lady´ now. Got the camera packed!

Seems to me about the only time I ever get a comment on the street is from black men.

However, in more intimate situations where I am at least casually associated with those around me (like a meeting, or church, or what have you), sometimes people ask about the hats and I tell them too much about them in reply. Then they make sure to never make that mistake again!

For the last couple of months there is a new guy hawking newspapers on my route to work. Every morning he compliments me on my hat.
He typically wears a cap and I return the compliment and make small talk.
It is rare to see a person take their job seriously and understand how to interact with the public.

Hatventures continued

Back again from an hatventure at the coast with The Hat Lady.

After the sea mist had cleared we walked down to the chiringuito on the beach for an early lunch.
Put my hat on and she grabbed some shots from her house.
In the half shade on a palm tree, 10 yards from the mediterranean sea my Resistol Rambler was pér-féct!
Not a murmer about it this time. Just from my charming company.

The next hatventure will be friday night; a visit to a jazz club at the Málaga beach.

On a far less elegant note, and far less elegant surroundings (down in the Swamp), I had lunch with my brother at Bass Pro and had bought him an Akubra Banjo Paterson. Wasn't sure of his size , so he tried it on outside of Bass Pro. A "tad" large so I broke out some felt strips I had and in a minute, it fit perfectly.

Unknown to us were 2 dapper looking older gentlemen (we are ALSO in that group) were watching the scene. As we started to head into the restaurant, one said to the other: "See, THAT is the kind of hat we need.....BOTH of those hats! Where did you get them? And the boots and A-2 jackets are perfect. "

I had on my new Akubra Lightning Ridge, so we both were "chuffed" and went inside. As we entered the restaurant, my brother took off his ubiquitous ball cap and tossed it into the trash can....."I'm not wearing that kind of cr#p any more!! Thanks for the hat, Brother!!"

If only those had been 2 hot chicks!! Maybe next time!!

That is the plan for the weekend hatventure. I cannot see how to convert that in discrete and anonumous hat photos yet. I am going to a local traditional fiesta with two lady friends. Here a snap from last year:

There's a sense of style among the older generation that I appreciate. Notice how the ladies spare no expense to do it right. I appreciate compliments from someone that appreciates a hat as more than a novelty.

BTW... I spent 15 years west of the Brat Stop in Salem - 50 & 83.

I've been wearing hats more often than usual, for the last couple of weeks, for the simple reason that I was in a serious accident about 3 and a half weeks back (crazy driver ploughed into the back of my bike and sent me flying) and now have a huge question-mark-shaped scar on the left side of my head. Mostly I get positive comments about the hats, which is preferable to the double-takes and odd looks I get at the moment when not wearing one.
