I did a search on felt hats a few years ago. I didn't join then but recently remembered the lounge. I think the lounge has actually turned up many results in the past.
From my friend, John in Covina. We share an interest in fountain pens and fedoras, and one day he scribbled the FL website address on the back of a business card. It took me a while to actually check out the site, but am glad that I did. Thanks, John!
Looking for a fedora for my boyfriend. I stumbled across the list of threads and saw The Powder Room and it was like I was no longer the lone vintage lover in a world of hi-tech gadgets and of-the-moment designers... that there is a whole bunch of us out there, and we're articulate, classy and darn intelligent! Oh, and we dress well, too!!
I found this site by accident, I was reading the My 50's year blog and she mentioned this site. Everybody has been so friendly and has great advice so I am really glad that I found it.
I bought a Tilley last summer and wore it just about everyday while on a boat or in a kayak. Liked wearing a hat better than a baseball cap. When the weather turned cold, I bought a Dorfman Pacific Indiana Jones fedora...NOT to be Indy, but the price and style was right for me to see if I even liked wearing a proper hat.
While surfing to learn the care & feeding of a felt fedora, I found the FD (and some other places as well), and....in a short time, my modest "collection" is growing.
Less than one hour ago, UPS just delivered my Akubra Banjo Paterson in fawn. Now I know the difference between wool felt and fur felt....I picked the Banjo largely because of what I read and saw here.
Well for me it wasn't the fashion... that came later. I blame yuhz guys for that! Gosh, the things that happen when you run with a fast crowd. lol
I think it must have been either '30s pulp stories, or history stuff, or vintage home decor things. My house will be dressed convincingly vintage long before I ever am.
I was searching for 'pincurls' and the Lounge suddenly popped into my life - YAY!
Though I couldn't actually join for over a year because I only had a free email account, which the Lounge doesn't accept... :eusa_doh: But I'm here now! (At last!)
It's sort of like a very well dressed group therapy session....in your mind....

lol I like that.. i could imagine it too. Instead of sitting in folder chairs, we sit in vintage couches and chairs. Instead of coffee and donuts its pâté and wine from the Renaissance..
