How about giving Schott some credit?

I clearly understand how we love Aero and other superb leather jackets, but what about Schott leather jackets? I have a few of them and think the world of them all. The newer 585 gets more attention from others than any jacket I have and my 141 gets that "where did you get that" comment often.

They make a good mid-market jacket, much better than the average mall jacket. Older Schott jackets are generally of better quality.

I do agree with Nighthawk.
However,some of Schott's recent remake of some classic Horsehide jackets turned out quite nice.
Here's a pic of my Schott '40s Retro HH (chilly/cold weather)riding jacket. Very comfy and easy to slip off and on.

My Schott Perfecto from 1970 has a replacement zipper, obvious wear on the sleeves and is a bit snugger( i've put on 20 lbs since then). I still get compliments when I wear it, which just confirms my opinion that it is a fine jacket.

Schott remake many of their classic jackets for the Japanese market..and they are great.. (and correspondingly expensive)

On a trip around Aoyama, I saw some great Schott/Beck jackets (Made in the USA by Schott).. They were all more tailored and had far better finishes than their stuff I've seen in the States and UK)

It's a shame they don't make these jackets available internationally for everyone...

I have a Schott Cafe Racer that I wear quite a bit--wore it on a ride just now. It is well made, comfortable, fairly heavy and probably would provide some measure of protection in the event of a go down. Compared to Aero leather though, it feels like mall leather.

i own a SCHOTT 184 SM.
It is my 2nd jacket of this kind, and i love it .

I think TV-detective Dave Starsky had one (not the 184 SM type), even in the remake film.

Agreed! Is it possible that the exclusivity factor on the Japanese market is worth more to them than any additional international sales? Or could it be that the vast majority of folks in most other countries simply don't spot the sort of detail that would mark these designs out to the degree that would stimulate sufficient demand? Thinking here of the fact that there are so many Brando-style jackets on the market which are much alike to most people, and that prsumably a concern the size of Schott would need to be selling them in sufficient numbers to make manufacture worthwhile. Contrast to, say, Aero and Lewis who are smaller scale operations geared towards a niche market.

I have a few vintage Schott jackets (mainly 60s and 70s) and I have a high opinion of them, particularly the 'police' model 125 from the 70s with provision for an issue belt and removable lining and fur collar.

My favourite is a jacket that has no serial number that is something like a cross between a Perfecto One-star, an Irvin jacket and the jacket from the 'Aviator' - with 'grenade pin' zippers, no less. Oh, and sleeve caps like a Kursland. You don't see many of them around!

I second the 184 SM, have owned one since 1993, and it still looks and feels great.
I recently acquired a 618 Perfecto, and it seems to be a pretty well made example of the "biker" style jacket, with good (but not flawless) workmanship, and very good-to-excellent materials.
