Wotan homburg in black. Size 57 with the brim at 6cm and the crown 10,5cm at the center dent. This one has me stumped about its age. As Norse and Germanic mythology was embraced by the nazis, it was at the very least frowned upon in the post-war years. So I think a manufacturer wouldn't choose this as a brand name like Wotan (the Germanic equivalent of Odin) until at least the mid to late sixties. It looks earlier than that though (liner is still stitched in for example). Looking at the liner logo I think Wegener may be the manufacturer. A hat called Wotan: had to have it.

More than two weeks since the last posting here in the nation? That will not do.
A recent addition and not the first time hats seem to travel in packs. This one could be the twin to the Wegener Cornett I posted here recently; it's just a different brand, but very close in colour.
Hückel Exclusiv. Size 56 with the bound brim at 6cm and the crown 10,5cm at the center dent. The colour of the auction pics was quite a bit different (that happens a lot), but I was not disappointed. No labels underneath the sweat, which is quite common for Hückel Welheim hats. The side dents sort of accidentally happened.

In these days I have made the census of the homburgs (Lobbia in Italian and Diplomatique in French) contained in my collection. I followed various tracks to date them and the most fascinating was to follow the movements of the "A. Meer" shop in Strasbourg to date the numerous NOS hats that I bought a few years ago.

These homburgs were made by Tirard, a well-known French brand that was the first (1956) to close its doors among the great hatters born and raised in France

These hats are marked on the lining or on the sweatband with the last address of the shop that opened in that locations in 1953 and closed definitly in 2004.
Starting from the far left here the interiors of the first two and then the last one
Here the paper labels under the sweatband, always starting from the far left. As you can see the first two belong to the same lot


Tirard "Ragondia" were the exact brand of these homburgs that have felts of the same weight with different shades of greys and the ribbons and brims are matching the felts for two and in a light contrast for theone on right.
The finishes are top notch and the high-class hats

Great looking hat and a Caxton no less. The homburg nation is so proud of this new member, Charlie. Gorgeous hat. I think there's a Caxton thread here on the lounge somewhere too. It deserves to be in there as well.
