Do Homburgs normally have feathers in them?
None of those you showed had any. Mine is this one.

I keep the feather in. Am I supposed to?

Hat Formality:

Homburg.
Homburg c/w pinch or feather.
Homburg c/w pinch and feather.
(Colour will also affect formality, it being paramount;
black being the most formal; brown? being the least.)

Originally they weren't formal hats. Edward VII's Homburg was Gray but he had other color variations. The Homburg became more formal over time so Black is by far the most prevalent. I would say by prevalence -> Black, Gray or Brown, Blue, Taupe, Others. Always worn with Center Crease with or without Side Dents. I haven't seen such hats (Homburg is Anglo / American term) worn with feathers other than my old Deutscher Schützenhut. :)

I have a special place for all my best hat feathers. I put them all in a Zippo tin and then I carefully place the tin right at the back of a drawer in my desk. That's it.
