Wegener "Rex", 58cm made for Hut Brömme Nürnberg 75th Anniversary (1953). There isn't a company mark but the paper label is from Wegener. I really like this one.

This is a recently stumbled upon Crofut & Knapp View attachment 44137 produced in the 1950s and sold through The Finchley Establishment, a Chicago and New York City clothier. Love the dimple in the bow knot! As well as the color as well as the hat as well as the brim as well as the brim binding as well as the center dent. You get the idea...

I'm going to ask this here, because it seems to be the epicenter for all things Homburg and I'd rather not clutter things with a separate thread for a question of very narrow purpose.

What would be the best source for a black homburg with a satin finish?

I will be presiding at a friend's wedding in a few months and have taken it as being as good a time as any to obtain a 'formal' hat. I knew that a silk plush top hat would be more traditional and I have dreamt of owning one since I was eight, but I think that one would be a little to hard to find occasions for. I'm aware of the vintage option, but I'm a 7 1/2 (Regular Oval, at least), so finding one suitable for me would be too much a game of patience and chance.

I had been considering inquiring to Optimo about a Homburg (or their John Lee Hooker variant), but I want to be sure that I'm not overlooking any good alternatives, especially as I like more dramatic proportions than is usual for the Optimo house style.

I hope that I'm not out of place. Thank you for any trouble taken or attention paid.

This is an Imperial Stetson originally sold through Marshall Field & Company. As far as I can see, it is in mint condition.

One of the most interesting things about this hat is the chameleon-like tendency for its appearance to change in different lighting conditions and when viewed from different angles. Sometimes it appears to be quite blue, other times more of a dove grey, and still others (especially under fluorescent lighting) a deeper, almost thundercloud, grey.

Also, the brim treatment is interesting to me, with a narrow almost light khaki grosgrain and a stitch about a centimeter below.

The felt is exceptionally fine and smooth.

If you can drop the Satin finish I would recommend going vintage. There are a lot of black vintage Homburgs available on Ebay (also post your request in the FL classifieds) so you should be able to find one in size 7 1/2 / 60cm. You would also save a lot of money. Optimo makes a high quality hat (at a high price) but you are not going to find the same brim work as a 1950s or older Homburg style hat.

Wow, Rick. Don't see many Resistol Hommies. I think it looks good on you, man. Not being a Hommie guy myself, I dont blame you for wanting to part with her. That said, it is a very nice, and probably rare, hat. Thumbs up!
Thanks Harv! It is a really cool hat. I just don't ever wear it. But I have a weakness for old Resistols!
