Royal De Luxe Stetson St Regis Homburg
5 1/2 crown
1 3/4 black grosgrain ribbon
2 3/8 - 2 1/4 dimensional brim to curl with 1/2 grey grosgrain binding

Ive had my eye out for a St Regis for while. This one arrived a bit wonky at the base of the crown. So I set out with a nice boiling pot and got to work. I think it shaped up nicely. I’m not sure what cause the misshapen crown. Could have been a slight shrinking of the sweat.. but I don’t think so as the size seemed fine. In the end... I’m gonna go with. Stacking... as the culprit for the weird shape. Seems as plausible a reason as any. But whatever the reason. It’s mostly gone now.

If that’s the one that looked like someone soaked it in water and then stuffed a balloon in it and blew it up? It looks WAY better now. I love it.

New to me this F.R. Tripler & Co. One of the many iconic department stores on Madison Avenue. Obviously not a hat maker themselves, so who did they source their in-house hats from? Anyone?

This is one of the quintuplet of hats I picked up from @PanosChris.

Quite a stiff but smooth feel to the felt. A nice supple sweat band. Wide brim at 5.5cm to the curl, and a nice wide ribbon at 5cm.

The brim curve gives it a Western look, which must have given it an eye catching twist on Mad Men Avenue :). It certainly got some looks today in downtown Elsinore.

Overall look appears to be ca. 1950s to my eye.

I'm really appreciating wearing this one.

It's a good looking homburg, Steve. The squarish looking brim shape does give it a more western like feel. The thinner brim binding ribbon seems to be a feature more common for American homburg hats.

Thanks and I so agree, Stefan. The squarish brim and tallish crown definitely give it a western look. One of the reasons I've not changed it yet. It makes it somewhat different to my other grey Homburgs. Not that any of them look the same :)

S. J. Fraenkel Wien, "Arola", 58 cm possibly late 1950s. This is my first S. J. Fraenkel Wien Homburg Hat find in my size range. The felt is of a heavier weight but still dry creases and has a soft hand. The components and workmanship are of excellent quality. This Homburg Hat was made specially for Thom. Janout Linz Hat Sales K.G.. Back in 2018 I fond a catalog from Thom. Janout, Hat Manufacturer Upper Austria, Linz, Austria (1924) so they stopped producing hats possibly after WWII.

Forgot to comment here, but the hat deserves every kind of praise we can think of for a homburg, Steve. Excellent find.

Been looking for one of these for some time but the French sellers seem to think these are their equivalent of the Whippet:) Quite the coincidence as well; I managed to find not just this one, but a second one in the same week.
Willoughby Real Nutria homburg. Size 57 with the brim at 6cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Came in a box dated 1937, which seems about right to me. The box mentions Ragon (Rat Gondin -nutria) but also mentions Madelios, which is another retailer with hats under their own brand. The box came wrapped in packing tape:eek:
Fantastic hand to the felt and shapes without any steam. Sold to me as black, but I'm very glad it's in fact a mid to dark grey. No label inside the hat. Some light mothing on the front, but more noticeable in the pics than in real life.

Nice Willoughby find, Stefan. I like that shade of grey, too.

The homburg nation needs some attention again.
Mossant Castor Hudson Diplomatique or homburg if you will. Size 57 with the bound brim at 6cm and crown at 11cm at the center dent. Classic colours with the grey felt (called "Gris australien") and contrasting ribbon and brim binding. The way the felt creases this certainly is beaver felt.

Originally, this A.F. Bodecker Homburg would have been made for a finer outfit. It is probably ca. 1940s / very early 1950s, so approximately around 70 - 80 years old. It's wear and tear is brought to new life via my wear and tear leather jacket.
