Off and on, I’ve been looking at this hat for months. It doesn’t have the wider brims I prefer, but the bigger concern is the color. I don’t want a novelty hat, but I’m not afraid of wearing some color. Is this hat wearable with business attire or is it too garish?

I can see its attraction, Brent, but I think that it may be too much though.

IVAR HOMBURGS. Structured and made with a light felt. Camel color and in Sand Color.

Well done, Mikael. These have a great shape and I love the colours. Pity you have to work with petersham ribbon in most cases. It makes the hat look less formal than a homburg would need. The brim curve has greatly improved and is close to the way they used to be done.

Thank you kindly! Yes, I did however find a supplier of better of ribbons. Looks like petersham, but its not. Cotton/ Rayon mix at least. Does the job well. But I wish it could be real vintage.

I agree. If there is any hat that calls for all the details to be classic and traditional it’s the homburg (top hats notwithstanding).

Petersham can look alright on fedoras, but there are, and will always be, those who insist on genuine grosgrain. I sympathize with the difficulty in finding vintage ribbon.

That's good to hear. Would you mind telling me which supplier you use for your ribbon? You could send me a PM if you'd rather not tell everyone here.

Another summer purchase. The homburg is part of a bunch of pretty badly worn Borsalino.
It was a gamble and this is the only one in my size, the others are narrower or smaller and are in the skillful hands of Fleur hatter of Penumbra hats in Netherlands.
2zghi6g.jpg

Lobbia Borsalino Qualità Extra Extra Superiore. Size is 6, so a 59 in EU or a 7 3/8 in US
aylmp3.jpg

Color is "Palladio" cinta (ribbon) Nero "Gulaela" Felt is soft and very malleable with a contrasting ribbon
1gifd.jpg

It seems new except it was the food for the moths, above all on the under side brim
w7csol.jpg

Fleur did a magnificient work on the little holes and nibbles made by moths
20rvlag.jpg

Outside the moths are more gentle
6ohcer.jpg

This "Lobbia" Borsalino or homburg or Diplomatique is the type with "wide" brim
2n0msg3.jpg

The proportions are: brim at 6 cm. ribbon is 4 cm. and the crown is 11 cm.
More to come in the next days

Arlesia in brown. Judging by its fit a size 57 with a brim at 6cm and a crown at 10,5cm at the pinch (if it had one). It is in fact a lords hat in brown and in woolfelt. First one I've seen, ever. French make and pre-war. I'm guessing early thirties, but could well be earlier. The basting stitches are still in, but the sweatband is toast and will crumble just by looking at it. The brim holds its shape very well and has an excellent curve, but the crown is not nearly as stiff and the felt is quite rough to the touch.

Cavanagh homburg in "midnite". Listed as a homburg in black and was actually lowered twice in price before it dropped down to $25 I believe. Well, if you're gonna twist my arm...
It is in fact not black (but "midnite") but a very dark blue. It can be seen by the contrast between the black ribbon and the felt here. Size 56 with the brim at 5,5cm an the crown 10cm at the pinch. It's a later Cavanagh but the quality is still very much there. It has been worn, but been taken care of very well. Superb hand to the felt and the finishing is great. The smell lets me act out my capelolfactophilia fully:)
