I remember that hat from last year. I debated a long time about buying it. The ribbon and brim binding are just different enough that I couldnt bring myself to pull the trigger. Now I'm having the same internal arguments. If Steur is right and it's a fedora with the brim curled....

Whatever it is, it's interesting and a good deal at your price. Hmmm.

Technically this one does not count as a homburg either, due to the lack of a brim binding. This one does has the formality (center dent, black colour, no side dents) to be a Lords hat (you could have a debate about that too). Found a few homburg hats yesterday, but I was more than a little pleased with this one. Esby brothers Lords hat, made for Chappellerie des Lions of Geneve. Size 56, curled raw edge brim at 5,5cm and crown 11cm at the pinch. No label inside the hat (aside from the size). There's not much more I can tell you really, because I could not find anything on Esby (not listed as a felt manufacturer in the English lists of 1902 or 1945) or on Chappellerie des lions. It is an early hat though; late thirties would be my guess. The felt is incredibly well pounced.

You are right Stefan, this one pushes all my buttons! Interesting maker, "Lord's Hat", nice brim curl. Thanks for this, sitting home sick this Saturday, I needed a little eye candy and enjoyment.

Glad you like it, Mike (but I thought you might). Sorry to hear you're sick. Best wishes and get well soon!

Here's another one that might cheer you up, Mike. It's a first for me, so i was very pleased to finally add one to the collection. Mossant de Luxe in black. Size 56 with a bound brim at 6cm and crown at 10cm at the pinch. Their reputation as a great hatmaker is deserved I'd say: this is a very well made hat. Not the lightest homburg I own, but a nice soft hand to the felt and the right stiffness for a homburg without it being overly stiff. Finishing is top notch. My guess is late forties to early fifties. No label inside the hat and I couldn't find anything on the shop either (try googling "fashion" and "paris" as search terms). The previous owner did leave a name and address inside the hat (could not find anything on him either), which I think is wonderful. Left it in.

Beautiful Mossant Stefan. Perfect lines to the brim and crown. So cool to have the original owner's information inside. I approve.

Another one I added to the fold this week. Hückel derby (odd name for a homburg, but what can you do?). Grey colour, size 55, bound brim at 6 cm and crown 10,5 cm at the pinch. It might need a little nudge but this just about fits me (Hückels tend to run a bit large). Post split-up production, so made in Welheim. No label inside the hat.

Lovely Hückel Stefan. That color and finish are superb. It is an odd designation having "derby" on the liner. Cool though.

Mike, thanks. I tend to look more closely at Hückel as their quality varies quite a bit. This is lovely though. Hope you're feeling a bit better. If you have withdrawal symptoms you can always wear a hat indoors. Nobody can blame a sick man for bad form surely. It will help you heal.

Another one of the finds of last friday and one that will make its way overseas really soon. Rockel homburg in blue. Echter Rockel haar, size 58 with a bound brim at 6cm and crown 11cm at the pinch. I would have loved this one to be in my size, but I'm sure its new owner will take good care of it.

Nice color. I agree that it is going to a good home. Maybe there will be some sunshine to make it glimmer in its blue beauty.

Stefan, Great looking Homburg! JHS used the "Derby" term for Soft Felts too so I don't think it's related to the American Stiff Felt Hat term. It might be related to a Derby Horse Race or Derby, England.

Stefan, Super! Great color and it appears to be from the 1950s. Older Rockel's are a harder to find.

Mike, Steve, thank you. The stack of homburg hats immediately caught my eye and because of the other colours than black I was even more interested. These didn't need a second thought.
