I'm so sorry my post started all this argument, which is a bit out of the subject.
I must add that Himel was just tickling me about the Schott Jacket I was wearing, which was very interesting, because in his own way, he explained to me the difference between a mass production jacket, and a made to measure, customized one.
I have a dozen Schott 's jackets, and I wear them, and I like them, I'm a Schott's enthousiast.
Himel just explained that you get what you pay for: Schott make great jackets I would recommand to my friends, Himel makes more demanding jackets, like jewels, work of art.

Peace to everybody, as Ton said: "we are all fans of leather jackets or we wouldn't be here"

And you've got a beauty Mysteryo! I love your Himmel and all the others I've seen you post around here. TBH the LW I sold you looks like you were born in it. Perhaps I'm biased but that is my favorite jacket on you.

It's in my top 5 jackets, Ton! I'm amazed about the quality and the consistance of it, every time I wear it. I've been having it for 4 years now, and it's barely broken in... in the sleeve!

Very nice post, I do not think you need to be sorry though.
And yes we certainly all are fans of leather jackets :D

Please don't apologize, Mysterious. You did nothing wrong. I'm part of the problem so I apologize for that.

Your jacket is absolutely stunning.

Ton- that is absolutely fair and I cannot argue about that with you at all.

So this is what prompted the hostile and indignant posts? As Mysteryo clarified, he was wearing the jacket when he met with Dave to take delivery of his new Himel jacket, and Dave explained to him the differences between the jacket he was wearing and the new jacket he was receiving. Dave "explained the differences between a mass produced jacket and a made to measure, customized one." Dave was explaining the details of Mysteryo's new jacket to him and contrasting it with the jacket that Mysteryo was wearing at the time. Sounds perfectly reasonable and understandable under the circumstances. IMHO, this exchange does not warrant the indignation and condemnation suggested by some.

Quite a discrepancy in the tone and content of those two quotes wouldn't you say? Either way it does seem Himmel threads often veer off into woods along the very same lines they always have since the very first one ever posted... Mysteryo got a great jacket and this thread should really return to just that.

Mysteryo this jacket is a friggin’ dreeeeaaam! Man, I can’t get over how great and badass you look in it! It seems like Dave designed it for you. You should give away all your other jackets, and pants... Haha.

I’ve never met David but I must say from everything that I’ve read directly read from him, he seems like a nice guy, even humble. I’m also completely turned off by all this „best this, best that“ talk, but I also believe we shouldn’t put too much weight on what David said in a fun manner to a friend. What BK has done is next level shit and has got nothing to do with this in my opinion.

And now give me a like and make this the BEST comment ever!

Outstanding jacket mysteryo, you really pull it off beautifully!

It's a shame that previous transgressions had to be brought up, out of nowhere, and I'm sorry for continuing the discussion but...

Let's remember: Dave has had to read COUNTLESS posts criticizing his prices, product, and the way he makes his living: "OMG! Why is it $X?? AERO is half the price! rip off!" If that didn't encourage him to go into excruciating detail about why HE believes his jackets to be better, different, and worth the surcharge if you like these details, I don't know what would. And some people are more reserved when they speak, and he is not one of those people, that's all... it is what it is.

I think that in the future we should focus on how awesome the jackets are, and not just post to stir up endless controversy in someone's nice new jacket thread :)

Disclaimer : pardon my English, I didnt use any translator...

Considering I got this jacket early april, it's high time i eventually write a review about it !

First of all, this is not my first Himel bros Jacket : 3 years ago I got myself this amazing Avro 2tone, which I love (but must let go because i want to order a new one with more generous measures;-)

And I've always been a fan of Himels work and philosophy.

Dave has been creating new patterns for few years now and I've always been attracted by the Buco J31 Topflite, or the early Leathertogs aviation jacket, inspired by 19th century militay uniforms : A very assymetrical closure, and a cossack collar.

Dave Himel's take on this model is overenlighted by this gorgeous design at the back, and of course the quality of his leathers, and of the craftsmanship.

I had my doubt, wondering what the jacket would look like when open, but after sneacking for pictures of it over the web and Himelbros's FB page, I decided to take the risk.

So, I contacted the Master, gave him my updated measures, and he responded very promply. I had a business travel planned in april to Toronto, and asked him if I could come over and pick up my jacket, which he agreed.

The jacket was finished on schedule (just before his team of craftsmen would go for several weeks on vacation!)

I came to Toronto and Dave was very welcoming, friendly and nice (eventhough he could'nt help but notice I was wearing a S....t jacket when I arrived, and demonstated me how awfully it was built and what a crappy leather it was made of:-D)

We had a wonderfull time speaking af all sort of things including jackets, and he gave me THE jacket, fitted me in it and it was just perfect !

All measures I gave him were ok, and the Chevalier fits me like a second skin !

I ordered it in dark brown Shinki with brass hardware all over. David even added an inside pocket, which is useful, as the jacket has a very « sober » pattern.
I asked for his japanese wool lining.

I wore it during all my journey to Canada, and had nothing but compliments about it, and how beautifull it is. I'm very lucky to work as an artist, and so not having to worry about social conventions. I gladly wear uncasual stuff, and feel good about it.

Bug enough talk, let the pictures speak by themselves.
Wow, the stunning material and design of this jacket is mind blowing!!!

@Mysteryo and @Carlos840, about how heavy are those jackets? I have an Aero in Horween CXL, and it's incredibly thick, built like a tank.

I've had a chance to see a himel jacket, but in goat, and it's significantly lighter. I was wondering how much of that difference in thickness is a choice by the jacket designer and construction and how much of it is solely due to hides. I like the way the shinki horse hides look, but am looking for a somewhat thinner jacket for warmer weather and want to know which way I should go.

Personally i don't think CXL is 'built like a tank", it's nice and thick, but still soft and pliable.
I have handled much tankier leathers than that!

I haven't received the jacket yet, but if it's anything like my black Shinki it is a little thinner than CXL, but not as thin as what you would expect from on A2 or most Eastman leathers. Something along the lines of a lewis leathers, or Schott.
