Sometimes they were called clam diggers too...you might want to try that as a search term! Don't feel bad, I would love a pair of those type of pants too and have been unsuccessful at finding my size and at a decent price.

Thanks, ladies. At first I wanted to just buy them, but then I thought that since I have weird measurements, they probabaly wouldn't fit right anyway. My grandma says she might be able to repurpose a pattern for dress trousers, so we're going to hit up Michaels later in the week. I'll keep you updated.

I really love the look of these jeans from DangerousGarbs on Etsy. In a couple months, when I'm done scrimping and saving, I'm buying a pair, as well as her twill trousers. I like the way she has the measurements set out, that she will custom make a size (good for a gal like me for whom ready made trousers never fit right) and that on Etsy you can communicate with the person making your item. I also think they're a great price at only $60.

In case you can't tell, there are white buttons down one side, instead of the usual two.

If anyone has these, I'd love to hear about them. I just had to pass this on.

Any gals recently bought some Freddie's jeans? I'm curious to hear of those who bought a pair that were an inch too small according to their measurements. They don't make my size but if it's true they give a little or have a little ease, I'd be more than interested in getting a pair as long as they didn't look like they were painted on.

Anyone have any help for a short-waisted girl with big hips, as far as shopping for high-waisted jeans that won't make me look frumpy? I really want a pair of Freddie's jeans, but I'm a bit too nervous so far. :(

The link that Miss Moonlight has posted is a seller that custom makes the jeans, pants and shorts. I haven't purchased anything from them yet, but there are alot of cute items there. I am short-waisted too. I've found that most pants described as natural waist almost fit as high waist pants. If I buy high-waisted pants it looks like I'm wearing some sort of pant-bra creation. Not good.

I'm really interested in Heyday's 1940s Swing Trousers. Has anybody tried a pair? If so, I'd really like to know what you think of them. :)

I haven't worn trousers for years, but I've lusted after these for so long I think I might just go for it. They're so pretty.

I have a black pair. I like them, I think they're well made & quite durable. In fact I recently purchased another pair! The grey stretch herringbone, I can't wait till they arrive :)

It appears that Dangerous Garbs are gone off etsy :/ darn, 60 wasn't bad at all judging by the prices for the other remake jeans.

I finally ordered a pair from Heyday and while they were absolutely gorgeous, sadly didn't fit. My waist/hip measurements aren't great for shop sizes, and I think I'd like to try and find somebody who will custom make a pair before I buy a better Heyday size and get them altered. Sadly DangerousGarbs isn't around any more - as Hailey said, they were such a great price! Does anybody have any other recommendations?

I have a hard time shopping for pants at stores like Target, do to length and waist size. I am a petite 5ft2 and I find with the low raise style waist in most pants sold in stores today the waist is always to big for my waist 27-29. I am looking for any recommendation to finding slacks for my height and waist size (pants with belt loops please my waist tends to srink often. I have an inbetween waist size). Oh, and no jeans please. Here is the type of slacks I am looking for http://www.mintagevintage.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/katherine-hepburn-high-waisted-pants.jpg Plus all recommendations do not have to be just vintage.

I noticed just a page ago (but not that recently, or not for being on the internet, so I figured I could bring it up again now) Alice asked for recomendations for swing trousers that are custom sized. I too wonder about this. I'd buy Heyday, as they are just the look I want, but the size chart is just too far off.
In addition, I'm looking for some that can be worn in very cold weather, but washed (either by hand or machine, that doesn't matter as long as it's not a dry clean only garment).

MissNathalie, that's my trouser-inspiration photo too! They look so amazing and she wears them so well.

Little Lady, as I couldn't find anywhere to get them custom made, I recently ordered a pair from Freddies of Pinewood. The sizing chart looks a little strange, but I messaged them through Facebook and they responded really quickly, telling me what size to go for. I'll post here about the fit when they arrive, and whether or not they can be washed/if they wash well. :)

MissNathalie and Alice, the ones in that photo look very like Simplicity 3688 retro 1940s pattern:

They are surprisingly easy to sew with only three pattern pieces and a side zip, and are very flattering too. And of course can be made to any custom measurements you like :)

They do look very alike! Thank you for sharing, Lareine. I'm a very inexperienced sewer but I think I'll make them my project! Thank you again :)

Oh! I adore the pants pattern! Unfortunately I can not sew enough to make clothes using a pattern. I will continue to keep my eyes peeled for a ready made or custom made pair of high waisted slacks. However, there have been a couple of places online that sell the pants I like. Only problem the pants only come with an elastic waist band.

Very strange size chart! I had no idea Freddies did any pants that where not in jeans type fabric, I'm very interested to hear what you think of them, Alice!!

I'm afraid I come with bad news! I didn't like the Freddies trousers much at all. The material is very thin, no good at all for colder weather, and I wasn't that pleased with the fit. They run slightly larger than the chart so they didn't fit well at the waist. Although the Heyday trousers also didn't fit me, the quality was far, far better. Heyday were beautifully tailored and the fabric was lovely - just thick enough for cold weather. Considering that the difference is only a few pounds, I would definitely recommend Heyday over Freddies for value for money. The Freddies trousers were labelled as dry-clean only, whereas Heyday can be put in the machine or hand washed.

As I'm having such poor luck with trouser fittings, I'm just going to wait until my sewing pattern arrives and give that a go before continuing my search. :)

Sorry you didn't like them Alice. Thank you so much for writing about them though. I'd buy Heyday for sure if it seemed at all likely they could fit well enough, but that's just not the case for me. I did take note of last year in the autumn or winter, Heyday came out with severeall trousers in fabrics suitable for winter weather, so that definitely seems like the place too look for that, if one fit's size charts, can sew or have a seamstress to go to.

I love Simplicity pattern 2654 for high waisted pants, skirts and shorts. :) I have made this pattern many times and love it. These are the shorts. You could add loops for a belt easy enough.
