High Waisted Pants & Jeans!

I just tried on the Classic Rise at Old Navy and the Higer Rise jeans by Bitten.

Old Navy's looked cute but were still about an inch below my belly button, maybe 2 (I'm long waisted). The 8s were a smidge too big. The Bitten ones were less cute, but ok, and at the belly button, however the 8 fit my waist but not my butt. Didn't have a chance to try the 10.

I don't know if anyone has posted this, but here's a pattern for high-waisted pants from the '40s for $10 if anyone is interested... They're sized a bit larger, though. The lady on the site only sells vintage sizes 16-20 I think, at least of reproductions. There are some originals on the site as well.

I have a question... do you think that women in the 1940s still wore some kind of girdle under their trousers? I mean if they weren't wearing them working on the farm or something... (farmwork in a girdle?! )

Hi - I wrote a thread back in March about a company in India called Make Your Own Jeans who would make to your measurments anything you like. I now have 4 pairs and am very pleased. I have them very high waisted, wide legged with button fly in both blue and black denim and now they are even offering denim with selvedge (for a bit more money) but the normal denim works out at about $65 or so a pair delivered to your door in about 3 weeks. Worth a look if you have special sizing problems with off the peg stuff.

They're not jeans, but I was delighted the other day when I found a pair of black wide-legged, front-pleated trousers, that hit right on my waist. And for $17.50 (Australian)! They're a perfect fit, too. I'm looking forward to swanning around feeling very Katharine Hepburn in them. If only I could find a decent pair of reasonably priced higher waisted jeans, now. I haven't found any that fit in a terribly flattering way... I've mostly seen the high-waisted jeans with a "corset-buttoned" front around in the shops.

Muffin Top?

A little late on this thread but I couldn't help posting.

What a riot is that name 'Muffin Top'! How appropriate!!
I have a mid 20s relative (who will remain unmamed) that wears those lower jeans and 'muffin top' is EXACTLY what it looks like
Try as I may to get her to wear longer shirts or higher pants, she won't budge because those low cuts pants are IN.

WHEW! I am hoping that when the higher waisted pants are IN, she'll be wearing them.

I have a younger sister, great legs and body, but her extra weight is right in her tummy. She swears by the low cut pants because she says they don't cut into her stomach and don't give her that 'stuffed in' feeling. In my sister's defense, she wears the low cut pants with a longer loose shirt, so there is no viewable muffin top.

Me? I need pants that get rid of a 'muffin rear' hehehe

I dont think ladies wore foundation garments under work clothes. Denim was considered a working mans fabric until the 50s made it a teen icon fabric.

In one of my 40's MME magazines (I think it's the Nov '42 issue) there's an advert for panty girdles to be worn under trousers/woprk pants. I believe the ad says just cause you're working and in trousers for the duration doesn't mean you sacrifice your figure or something to that effect. I'll have to see if I can find it and scan it in.

I have been searchingn the web, to NO avail for sme high waisted slacks actually from the 40s...
but today, at my local vintage shop, i got a pair of a weird teal green for pretty cheap! I am SOOO excited, cos I have yet to see a pair on ebay...

One of my first acquisitions on ebay was a pristine pair of high waisted, wide leg rose-colored 1940s linen pants, which are absolutely gorgeous. I got them for the steal price of $30- and have yet to see any like them either online or in person. What luck!

I couldn't find a thread for this so I'm starting a new one.

I'm looking for high waisted pants, jeans or other kinds doesn't matter. The one pair I have was a lucky find at a thrift store, but I need more pants, and I don't really wear anything that sits below the waist.

I'm mainly looking for thin legged 50s looking pants, and the only ones I've found are these.

There is always ebay of course, but there's very seldom that a pair comes up that both seems to be my size, and has good enough photos for me to dare bid on it. I'm extra picky about the fit of pants so I'd rather get them from some online store.

The tarantula capris seems to be exactly the same as those sold by My baby jo, and I'll probably end up ordering a pair even if they don't have long legs.

Maybe try Urban Outfitters (urbn.com)? I don't know if they ship internationally, but they carry the brand Lux which makes good high waisted jeans.

The reason why I like Lux as opposed to Acne or Cheap Monday is because they are cut for women with hips. My friend, who is very slim and has no hips, can easily wear Cheap Mondays while I can't even get them past my thighs!
