I tried elastic shoulder strap suspender whatever you call it with simple clip on to the pants, and I dislike it right away, there is this weird connection between shoulder movement and the waist of the pants, you re reaching up and the pants riding up as well, and also it renders the chest pocket of your shirt to be useless

Got a couple of pairs of Pike Bros braces / suspenders that I will occasionally wear with a belt & completely undermine the point :)

Being Irish and living in London, you and I both speak the same language on this one. ;)

I do remember dear Eric's sock suspenders; I have a few pairs myself. I'm too lazy for them most days, but for special occasions they're a nice detail.
I think the day I use sock suspenders, my wife will laugh so hard that I'll probably be thrown back into virginity, and will never approach her until the end of her days... :D

It's odd how they became such a staple of comedy from at least the 70s onwards, maybe earlier, most commonly stage farce involving someone (often a philanderer) losing their trousers. If Hugh Jackman started wearing them, of course, they'd be all the rage again!

They were indeed the butt of comedy, although the humour had to be contrived. Looking at the above photo my guess would be that to stop them slipping down they would need to be fastened tight enough to impinge blood flow.
Somehow they seem pointless, socks are self supporting, my own are all natural fibres yet always remain in place. Synthetic fabric have a good stretch quality but lack absorption and smelly feet are right up there with stinky breath and armpits that could easily give a pesticide a run for it's money.

Will someone please explain something to me? I read on a lot of jeans forums and threads, and sometimes on here, people talking about higher rise jeans and wearing their jeans up high. I've never really gotten this as my jeans, no matter how high, low, or medium the rise measurement is, want to rest at the same spot on my waist, which is just below my little paunch.

To get the thread back on track, I found a good close up of high rise jeans, but I don't recall ever seeing them worn.

Yeah, they're really a relic of an era when socks weren't elasticated and didn't hold up so well on their own. The ones in the picture look like they're being sported by someone who doesn't 'get' them; they should be worn with the elastic round the calf muscle at an angle, and the tab at the front; that way they hold up without cutting into the leg and are very comfortable for all day use. Not especially necessary these days, but a bit of fun when you want to have all the accessories..

Have a few pairs of high rise trews but like lots of others find with a belt they gravitate to the same point as lower fitters. Braces / suspenders allow them to remain where they were intended to be.

I bought a pair of wide legged high rise jeans from a Chinese maker called Red tornado, and I mean really wide and high. Cuffed too. The quality actually seems quite nice but they apparently run almost two sizes too big. Ill have to try to get them tailored at some point. The way they are made, you should be able to get them altered like any pair of slacks. They are basically slacks made of denim. If you want something like that there aren't many options.

Would you, by any chance, have more info on these denims? They look absolutely amazing, love the fishtail, the slanted pockets, the contrasted stitching, everything!
For you Sir, with pleasure. They are quite expensive mind, but they are made from 16 ounce raw denim. Just like the originals, the cut is loose and high-waisted for comfort and movement, and they can be styled smart or rugged for a workwear look.

Thank you very much!

Expensive indeed, but a good denim can last you quite a while, so I really wouldn't mind if they ever get back in stock. The more I look at them, the more I like them!

What you might want to consider is finding yourself someone, like my wife, who makes their own clothes. Before you ask, my wife only makes clothes for the two of us, but there are those who have honed such skills over many years. Try putting into Google: "Made to Measure Jeans."

Some years ago I did much the same and discovered https://www.colinjohnsonshoes.com/ who specialises in made to measure two tone shoes, and at a very competitive price. I did much the same with suits and formal wear when I found https://www.foxtailoring.co.uk/ My larger size head has been perfectly accommodated in bespoke style by https://gambleandgunn.com/ fedora hats.

So, give Google a try, and see what comes up. Anyone worth their salt that can make trousers, will certainly be able to make jeans, adding all the features from Labour Union's photos that's on their website.

I look for denim chinos. I have pairs from Dickies and the fancy J Crew brand. I also search for y2k Old Navy “worker” jeans.

Bit ahistorical! The original high waisted suspender jeans were 8-10oz fabric, as a sort of over-layer for abrasion protection.

Thank you for explaining that. Most who wear jeans are far more knowledgeable about denim than me. My choice of fabrics never includes denim. Wool is my go to choice, made to measure. I leave the denim for others. Not my cup of tea, as we Brits say.

In Levi’s their 501 and 517 jeans are their high waisted jeans. In that I mean they ride at your navel. 501s are button fly which some will not like. 517s are boot cut jeans. Which I like because I wear boots quite often. All other Levi’s ride below the waist.
I wear a 34x32 and they don’t fall down nor roll down on me. I’m 5’11” and 180 lbs.

I bought this alpaca cardigan off eBay (I guess the kids are chasing the Kobain look cuz it’s hype prices! ) and stretched the length as much as possible after baby shampoo wash.
Does the high rise pants help pull off the cardigan as it’s now sitting somewhat below the belt? Is it tooo short?
My denim is sitting right over my hip bones cinching my waist a bit, and is narrower than my traditional waist .
