Nice. How long did it take you to get "the look" you wanted?

I was just over on the Obi-Wan forum looking at pictures. (Now that is a real strange name for something Indy related).

Here's a less Indy-like black Federation.

Since you can't recieve PM's yet, let me say here that I had planned to post this hat for sale or auction next week. It's been bashed for a while, and a little "set in it's ways", but it might fit you. Rather than have you curse at me for not telling you before you made your choice, I'm bringing it up now.

I like the "classic look"

If I were rich, I'd buy classic Chanel Suits in every color. But I'm finding Coldwater Creek is my favorite store for "stylish" and on sale it isn't too bad. Yesterday I got this for half price:

http://www.coldwatercreek.com/W07/products/product.aspx?productid=34731&ensembleid=40007

I wish that the classic Burberry trench coat I bought 25 years ago in London still fit :p

I won't wear heels anymore.. I had quite a collection when I spent time working in the UK for a US employer. I'm now into "comfortable or barefoot".

But, around here, most of us are.

I think Ingrid Bergman looks absolutely fantastic in this scene toward the end of Casablanca; from the rakish angle of her hat, to that perfect wool twill suit, to those pristine spectator pumps.

If I were a woman, that's how I would dress. She looks like a million bucks!

I'll have to watch the movie again

I don't remember that shot at all. I wonder how George Lucas thinks sometimes <G>.

I ordered a Federation from Hats Direct last night

In tawny Fawn which I plan to wear with my camel's hair dress winter coat.

I confirmed my size this morning with Deb from Hat's Direct. It turns out I'm a perfect 59cm. One of our local garden shops stocks several flavors of Tilley's that have sizes printed in inches, hat size and cm on the labels. I have some old Tilleys that only have hat sizes. I tried on six different models and the 59 is perfect.

I still want a black CEO or other black Fedora. Why do you want to part with yours? It looks really nice on you.

It's not that I don't like the Federations; I currently own ever color but Tawny Fawn (just never got around to it). However, I've noticed I rarely wear the black and the gray... and I'm kind of addicted to Art Fawcett's hats now. Aside from my Akubras, every felt hat I own is custom made at this point (not just Art's work, though). I guess I've just evolved into a different type of hat wearer. [huh]

Looks like I have to wait for a Fed

Deb from Hats Direct wrote that they had a run on my size and that it will be 3 weeks. I'm really disappointed.

Thank you. That is an Adventurebilt, made by Steve Delk. It really is a fantastic hat, and the block used to make the open crown (before shaping) was carefully researched to match the Raiders of the Lost Ark hat, which is Steve's specialty. The final shape is a combination of Steve's work and my adjusting it a little.

Adventurebilts are all custom made by hand, and the waiting list is long (I think he recently delivered one that was ordered 8 months ago). But it's well worth the wait, and the price.

Black Federation is on its way

I saw the picture that JT Marcus posted last night of his Black Fed Deluxe. Then I saw that Aarons had raised the price of the CEO to $140 from 115 (I had been thinking I wanted a black CEO). So rather than wait for the Tawny Fawn and REALLY wanting a black fedora that I can "style" and seeing that gorgeous lid on JT, I changed my order. Deb confirmed back.

Maybe I will consider the CEO in a different color, but I will drive up there and try it on since it is a molded crown.

I'm sure you'll be happy with the Fed, Barb. It's a great hat, and you can certainly style it a la the CEO if you want to.

I bashed mine cold, BTW - I didn't use water or steam. The dents held from day one, but training the brim to have more swoop took some time. Refining the shape right after wearing it in the rain a few times locked it in. (Bashing isn't rocket science - just play with it until you're happy.)

And if you still want to special-order a Rodeo Red CEO, once you see how the Fed fits and are sure of your size, trying going with one of the slower-but-cheaper full-line Akubra dealers, like Aussie Bush Hats & Oilskins.

Thanks for the tips

I heard back from everythingaustralian and they said that to get the CEO in Rodeo Red would require a minimum order of 28 hats. Aussie Bush Hats and Oilskins doesn't list any Fedoras under "immediate" or special order, but I will email then after I get the Federation.

thanks,
Barb

Too bad about that 28-hat minimum! So much for my thinking that Akubra will make up any style in any color!

(Maybe you should contact the ladies of the Red Hat Society and see if they're in the market for a vendor for a superior fur-felt fedora to offer along with their usual wool felts? They're a large organization and they might be willing to support a test run. Just a thought...)

Interesting idea

I just might do that. I have not come across fur-felt ladies Fedora's anywhere except on the everything Aussie site.

Also, the thought crossed my mind that this may be this particular reseller's policy (?) and maybe I should inquire elsewhere as well.
