I just moved this post from the Guides Section to hats and thought I would bump it to see if anyone can help. I'm not sure what the question is, though.

Thanks, I was wondering if this was an OR or a Rawlins. I can’t find any info on a Vintage Rawlkns. Also, trying to narrow the date it was made.

It’s a nice Stetson 3X, but it’s not an Open Road (OR). The skinny ribbon is wrong for an OR and the brim edge is raw and not bound by a thin ribbon as is the OR.

It’s often difficult or even impossible to say for sure what model these vintage hats are unless there is provenance or when the model is stamped onto the sweatband or printed on the liner. If you can add a photo(s) of the factory label that is glued to the felt behind the leather sweatband and the translucent sweat shield (you may have to use your finger to gently move the liner out of the way to see/photograph it) this will give us more information on your hat.

It’s a nice old 3X whatever else you learn about it.

I would say late 40s to mid 50s. It's a XXX (3x) Stetson. It's not an Open Road but looks similar. The Rawlkns is just a price sticker from the store where it was sold. It's a very nice 3x Stetson in size 7 1/8 about 75 years old. It's a very common color in a pretty common size.

Thanks Gentlemen, when I return home from work this evening, I’m going to investigate a little further using deadlyhandsome’s suggestion. If there’s any hidden markings, I’ll post it here. Thanks again.

I always assume a Stetson hat with a plastic liner was manufactured post-1952. I date those with an oil skin liner protector between 1948-1952.

I honestly can’t recall exactly why I hit on those dates after seeing so many hats and reading so many posts, but those numbers have stuck with me.

Rawlins looks like the model name in the price tag, maybe someone can find it on an old catalog.

Hello Everyone! Being new to the Lounge, I’m not sure where to post this. Maybe someone in the lounge can help. My wife and I finally sifted through a deceased relative’s storage unit and this Stetson showed up. One of the tags states “Rawlins $18.00”. Any help would be appreciated. We think it may have belonged to my wife’s father or Grandfather.

Followed your directions and found the label. The Reorder number (not very legible) looks like 382528, same as stamped on the back side of the sweat band. Looks like the Block is 2900 and size 7 1/8. Not sure that any of this helps to clarify the name or age, but I love the hat. I’ve been careful not to overbrush it. I like the slightly stained patina it’s acquired.

I was just sitting on the deck at the lake and decided to see what sort of info I could find about my hat and there y'all were. I bought it in a second-hand shop in Calgary on my honeymoon nearly forty years ago. It's showing a little wear but still as comfy as can be. It stays at the lake because it's had a long, happy life.

It's a 3X which doesn't mean much other than it sold new for around $15 US. The Last Drop liner indicates it's a western hat, either dress or cowboy style. There may be some mfg. stickers behind the sweat if it's in good enough shape to turn it over to look. Stetson operated a factory in Brockville from the late 30's to the early 70's and the earlier hats from there are prized and not often seen around here. I have a 40's era 7X CB from there that is one of the nicest hats I own. Would like to see more photos of yours. The clear cellophane liner tip cover indicates the hat was made post 53.

Thank you for this. I'm an information sponge from way back and knowing the history of my stuff really fills my sails. There's a serial number on a tag inside, G67731. Just last year I lost the little button from the ummm... security string that wraps around the under ribbon (broke my heart) but a Bowline knot serves the purpose now.

I can't find any details on it, it looks old and the lining is hanging on by a string. It's a Kurtley Manhattan hat. Any info much appreciatedm

Hello, and thank you for accepting me into this community! I am fairly new to hat collecting and I am looking to learn as much as I can and maybe share a few things I might have picked up.
Anyways, I need help dating this Stetson El Patron I picked up a while back. It is a straw hat which is odd enough in itself but it appears to be made of actual panama straw, not shantung. If anyone can give me any info as to approximate age of the hat and or how many might have been made I would greatly appreciate it!!
