I bought a gabardine jacket on Ebay and after washing and pressing it I realized it is NOT in food condition. The seller clearly states "All sale final" too, so I'm stuck with it.
I need some vintage gabardine in red- I need the heavy, thick, drapey rayon gabardine, not shirt weight stuff. I need enough to do the shoulder yokes and the inside zipper facing. The picture shows the color.

Anyone have about 1/2 yard of that stuff lying around??

Hehe :)

Good luck! I don't think replacing it with new gabardine would be an awful thing to do if it's in bad condition.

Replacing, or substituting?

I have considered using WOOL gabardine- it's still common and comes in a wide variety of colors and qualities, but I'd prefer to still with vintage stuff, of the same content and weave density.
Anyone?

All I can say is good luck. I dont know of anyone whos got some good red gab laying around. However, Ive got an Arrow Gabanaro in cherry red that has a nice heavy weight to it. If I were you, Id keep a look out for one, or an early 50s Penneys Towncraft. Both brands had a heavier weight to them than others like Marlboro (the ones Ive got from them are much lighter in weight), and it would be better than nothing.

That's what I'm planning, too. I keep my eyes open for the "as-is" garments. Shirts, skirts, whatever possible in a hot red.
You're right though, I did find a shirt that would have been the right color! It's was mint condition and $50 though- I didn't have the heart to buy it and take scissors to it....
we have flea markets almost every weekend in the LA area- I'll be on the road a lot this month!

Fabric?

Thanks for the offer Lady Day (I learned who that refers to!!) but the rest of the jacket is a rayon gabardine- it would be best to keep the whole thing consistent.
Flea markets are coming up again soon, looks like I will be waking up early on Sundays and combing the aisles. Come on, lucky 7's!! :p
