I've got 5 vintage fedoras. Two grey, one tan, one brown, one green.

I've got a number of vintage suits. Blue, tan, green. No grays or browns, which I should work on fixing. I'm also short on vintage sport jackets and pants.

I have a friend that owes me a fedora (since I gave him a VERY nice one that was too big for me) and he has access to / owns a large number and variety that he can choose from.

So, what to get? Blue? I hardly ever wear my blue suit and gray goes fine with it. I'd like a darker green but those are next to impossible to find, as he's let me know. Black doesn't look good on me and conjures up too many Hollywood 'bad guy' / Blues Brothers references. I wouldn't mind another tan, but don't have much to wear it with.

Get creative, but bear in mind I'm limited to what's already out there(more importantly, what he's already got)...this isn't a custom job.

Pictures would be great...old ads, stuff, you've got, etc.

Blue sounds good but so does a blue/gray to go with more suits. A dove gray might be a good choice too. I'll have to check through my ads to see if I can illustrate. ;)

Wingnut, don't give up on a navy blue color. They make a very impressive hat and not at all like the gangster type. I got one two weeks ago and am so pleased with it and the way it looks. They can be a bit dressy and that may or may not be a turnoff. Good luck with your project.

If you don't like the black range, try a charcol gray almost black but not quite

Or maybe a steal gray

That'd make four grays / blue-grays since I just bought Douglas' Stetson. (bear in mind this doesn't mean I'm no longer looking, this is a totally separate matter)

Ok, I didn't know that. Douglas has a few good suggestions though. The white, charcoal or even a midnight blue might be interesting.
One of these might just kill two birds with one stone:

A blue like this Stratoliner inside might be cool:

Here is an example of the midnight blues:

Here are some interesting colors:

I like these colors too:

This might liven up the wardrobe:

Aside from that I have no suggestions. ;) :p

Definitely like the midnight blues. A cream / white could be an option, but I'm trying to avoid the stereotypical 'Bugsy' look...seems real gangsters of the period and their Hollywood counterparts preferred them. I think the key is going with a low-contrast ribbon.

Good stuff so far, keep it coming and thanks. More options are always good.

I agree, a light blue is a killer color.

NB-13 -- I am LOVING that OR!!! Did I miss something along the way, or have you posted details about that hat already?

Cheers,
JTL

Believe it or not, when the 'seasons' system first came into vogue, my great aunt analyzed the entire extended family. I ended up a mix of summer / spring.

...thankfully, I've been blessed with enough sense of style to be able to break the rules and still get away with it.

That is exactly the color I envisioned for Wingnut.

I would think that, as much as you fellows run around wearing blue clothing, that you would all want hats like this.

I've only got one dark blue suit and don't wear it much because I'm not happy with the fit. The tailor unfortunately didn't understand the subtleties of vintage suits and altered it in a bit too modern manner...on the other hand, he did an incredible job with my tuxedo.

Oh, yeah. I posted that baby way back. It was my first vintage find when I first got the bug. I ran out of patience when the only thing I ever found in my size were OR's, though. Then I got bit by the Art Fawcett bug! Maybe one day I'll find a vintage whippet to keep my blue OR company.
