This is apparently a minority opinion, hats4me, but I kinda like the way you've reshaped that crown. The original center-dent-only shape has it looking tapered and the teardrop takes some of the height out of the crown and, hence, some of the taper. Perhaps sending it out for a proper reblock would straighten it up.
Sure, the way you've bashed it is unorthodox, but it's your hat and if you like it, that's what matters most.

I am still working on the crown, and am close to having all the kinks worked. Another time or two with the steam and I may just have it completed.

I belive is from the mid 40's because the tall crown and large brim, I have a Resistol ten grey homurg (one of my favorites), that I usually wear in formal events. About the way you modify your hat, I like the original shape.

Fortino, you wear it well, some have it and some don't.

Interestingly, in the movie British Intelligence from 1940, one of the police detectives wears a Homburg like that . It still has the center dent though it has the forward dents like yours. So hybrid really isn't all that new, considering that was 66 years ago. ;)
Check out the movie and you will see it easily.

I must say that I like the original shape of a homberg very well. I like very much what you have done with this hat also. I like this version better than I do some recently seen here where hombergs have been almost totally reshaped into fedoras. But again, it is as you say, a matter of individual style and taste. I find your project lacking in neither.

Doc, you are quite the gentleman. I have seen many of the remakes, I guess they would be called. Those who have done it, I say, it is your hat, go for it. I have many fedoras, I wanted to try a homburg, it just did not look as good on me as it does others. So what to do? I chose to develop a style that works for me. It is not for everyone, anymore than a Chevy, or Ford. I have worn it a couple of times now, and had compliments, funtion and style, what else could one want?

It seems the more I look at your creation the more I like it. Can you do another? If so, and the price is right, I will scare me up an extra homberg.

Doc, I don't know what to say. I am flattered, but I am no millner. If you wanted, I would be happy to give it a try for you, but honestly all I did was fire up the tea kettle and work with it a little. If you wanted I could try and walk you through it.

As I pointed out somewhere else, these supposed "hybrids" are in fact a completely different hat: not a Homburg, but a New Yorker.

Totally legit, methinks.

(Although I don't know whether the New Yorker genre encompasses anything other than a center dent.)

I think you may have started something here hats for me or Bud in Texas whichever the case may be. When I first saw the homberg you reworked I thought it as fine a looking hat as I had seen. I love a homberg and hated to hear of you thinking about changing it but, after seeing the final result I want one like it. Just need to find a homberg I can bear having changed in 7 and 3/8. Anybody out there want to part with one? LOL

Doc, I am very happy with it, the funny thing about it is as nice a hat as it has turned out to be, it came from very humble beginings. It hung around for quite some time on ebay until it went to Buy it now, for a whopping $5.00. Thats right, a Resistol Ten for 5 bucks. It was a 7 1/8 and I wear a 7 1/4 to a 7 3/8ths. Steam, Lexol on the leather and a stretcher and viola, you now see the outcome. I don't know that many 7 1/8ths could be stretched out to fit me, but it worked this time around.
