Help choosing an aero, please.

Hi Everyone,

I ended up going back to Kentaurus in Cologne (Köln) as I was too unsure about everything and figured it's worth spending the extra money to ensure I get the right jacket. I ended up choosing the 50's half belt in brown CXL FQHH. The jacket arrived at Kentaurus miraculously quickly (<3 weeks) and I just picked it up today.

This is a standard 38" 50s HB with ~1" extra at the back, which measures 65 cm/25.6". No storm cuffs, 1 inside pocket (LHS), buchanan hunting modern tartan lining (standard Aero stock). The sleeves are 64 cm/25.2". Can't remember if that's standard or not. For reference, I'm 5' 11" and I always wear a 38"-40" suit jacket.

Love it. Love the hide. Couldn't be happier!

Here it is!

Huge thanks to Holly, the machinist Toni Hogarth (hope I've remembered that correctly), everyone else at Aero and Stefan at Kentaurus. I would strongly recommend visiting Kentaurus if you are in the market for an Aero (especially if it's your first) and it's a great shop otherwise, too. Loads of stuff that I think people here would like and it's almost more like a gallery than a shop.

Thanks to everyone here who helped out with my endless questions. This is a really great community.

Whoaaaa..that was quick, Aero usually take 4x times longer.
I'm still waiting for my jacket ordered around the beginning of November.
Probably the stores they work with have a certain priority for orders.

Apparently the waiting time for retailers is the usually same. I was told to expect an 8-10 week wait so we were very surprised when it arrived. It might be due to Aero running low/out of certain hides so they catch up on orders that dont require them.

Hope the wait isn't hurting too bad ;)

I responded a bit late as I didn't see the images until just now. Great looking jacket with sizing nailed down extremely well. The only thing I might have fine tuned differently would be to have added another inch or so to the body length to cover the belt, although that's just my own personal preference and not to imply anything else. Anyhow, well done!

Thanks!

I'm kind of in agreement regarding the length to be honest, but that's as much as they would add, plus those are quite low rise jeans. I have a pair of jeans that sit higher and the length looks good (belt not visible). Over time I'll phase out the old jeans for higher rise ones, which I've come to prefer anyway. So really it's my jeans I'm not happy with haha.

I'm really enjoying breaking it. My gf (who has not been very 'pro-jacket') even said it looks good on me now that it's shaped to me a bit.

I'm used to, specially during winter times.
I made orders in April/May and in 3/4 weeks my jacket was home.

Very low rises on jeans and pants usually don't do much justice to short jackets.
Nothing wrong with the low rise, I have some jeans that sit quite low but I try to pair them with longer jackets or jackets with knit waistbands at the bottom. I do prefer medium rise jeans becaus they ten do be more of an all around garment.

I had this experience with the last Aero I ordered. Through reading TFL I saw that a member here received their jacket several weeks before me even though they had ordered it a full month after me. Both jackets are Cordovan CXL horsehide so I couldn't fathom why mine was not made first. In the end I decided that this was more proof of something I had been hearing for quite some time now: life isn't fair!
All of the bad feelings dissolved as soon as my jacket arrived, however, it was absolutely beautiful and it fit perfectly. Alls well that ends well.

Too bad you can't go to a store and try several on. I remember years ago, when every Army/Navy store sold Schott. I bought a Barbour Moreland about 25 years ago, by leaving a credit card number on an answering machine in England. Still have the jacket, and it's perfect. I know it's convenient, but I just enjoy the physical experience of trying on and getting to choose more. Your also talking about your favorite coat, which needs to last a lifetime. The experience should matter.

It's funny how so many people start off here with jeans that sit somewhere just below the hip bone, then they slowly levitate to above it. The thing is, for slim-to-average builds, this is a flattering look as it emphasizes leg length and the real waist. Embrace the higher rise, I say!

Hear, hear! Yes this is what I've realised also. I'm not long legged for my height so it's a big improvement if I wear them somewhere near my actual waist. Took me longer than it should have to realise higher rise jeans are required and it's not just a matter of hiking up low rise ones... I think frequenting the lounge has also caused me to shift from just wearing what I find in high street shops to actually thinking about what shapes and styles really work, regardless of how uncool they are. I have resolved to wear whatever I friggin want. I'm sure I'm not the only one to have this experience.

Even before I made my comment about the body length I perceived @Furrowson might have a somewhat longer torso in relation to height so what @Sloan1874 said is especially relevant regarding higher rise jeans and pants.
