I won a Havens Bros hat on Ebay that I received today. It was a show sample in my size. A great hat, very well made. More western weight than dress weight but very nicely pounced and a great hat

I just finished reading this entire thread. I picked up the hat on an Ebay auction and for the quality of the beaver hat and workmanship I stole it. Email conversations with Mark were great. His website is down right now but will rise again soon. His sweat bands (good quality supple leather) now have the Havens Bros gold printing and the liners are still sewn in. This is a quality hat and once he gets the web site up and running I will start a conversation about a custom fedora. Mark stated he has original OR blocks and flanges. Not sure how broad his blocks/flanges extend beyond that range.

I found out today, that Mark Havens of Havens Bros. Hats (https://www.hbhats.com/) passed away on December 15, 2019. Mark was also the driving force behind Hatters Supply House (https://hatterssupplyhouse.com/)

Here is his obituary that I found online: https://www.viegutfuneralhome.com/tributes/Mark-Havens

Mark was a standup guy, had a passion for making hats and always willing to share his advice and knowledge. Through Mark I purchased 15 brim flanges that he had made with a local woodworder named Kip. I had placed my 16th order last night and this morning Kip replied back informing me of his passing and that the brim and hat block part of his business was transitioning over to him directly.

While I am glad to still be able to get great blocks and flanges, I am saddened by the passing of another from the small community of hat makers.

Rest in peace Mark, you are missed!

I too am saddened by this news. My one Haven Brothers hat is a very well made hat. I was thinking of ordering another but it looks like I am too late.

I'll be damned! I can't believe that! He and I had many phone conversations. In our last conversation he told me that he was about to have a hip replacement and that he was excited about becoming a distributor of Tonack felt bodies. I even called him on the 1rst and left him a voicemail message, wishing him a Happy New year, (not realizing that he had already passed). I bought my ribbon and flanges from him. What a shocker. I didn't even know he passed away. Wow. Unbelievable. This is sad news. He was a real nice guy.

That is sad news. I have had contact with Mark Havens only through e-mail, but he was very helpful and friendly. A loss for his friends and family and for the hat community.

I found out today, when checking on the status of an order. Only interacted with Mark by email, but it appeared to me he was a great person. Very sad news. I’m glad I was able to come across Mark in my recent hat-making. He gave me really good direction in supplying as he was the very first I bought blocks and tools from.

Mark's personal stash of blocks, flanges and tools are currently for sale. I've attached the pdf list they sent me.
