Is it worth seeing for more than just the hats, and do I/you/we need to have seen Lonesome Dove first?

I've never seen the others only the original Lonesome Dove. IMHO it was an epic mini series. I believe I tried watching the 2nd installment but it just wasn't the same.

From the Fifties, a TV show I dimly remember seeing in syndication, and which is now on MeTV. Here's Broderick Crawford (even his name sounds as gravelly as his voice) in Highway Patrol. First a Fed IV-style fedora:



And a Playboy-style, which I like even better:



An image search on DuckDuckGo also shows him with a shorter-brimmed fedora, perhaps from later in the Fifties as hat styles changed.

I haven't read this entire thread, but the HBO show "Boardwalk Empire" is like stepping back into hat and vintage manly wear heaven. I started watching the show on Amazon Prime recently, and I am hooked, just looking at the awesome hats! The show is based in Atlantic City, during the Prohibition era.

Yes. Mitkof Island. We'll be staying another winter But we have to get down to Port Townsend to finish the boat rebuild in the spring. After that, I think a year or three in the tropics is in order; subject to approval of the First Mate.

We watched that series. Great show. Great clothes; especially hers.

The Untouchables TV show is a fav of mine for hats. I like wider brimmed fedoras and the period they depicted was wide brim heyday. Robert Stack is not usually the best hatted but there are always several hats to covet on any episode I've seen.
