It’s been a few hours since my third Covid jab and I feel fine so we opened a bottle of barley wine - a 10.5% beer that is aged for six months rather than the usual two weeks. Very nice it was. The description on the bottle says full bodied (yes), toffee (yes, absolutely), and coffee (yeah, now you mention that, maybe I can taste that). Anyhow, it was very aromatic and tasty.

The hat is the Stetson Custom V that I wore to get the jab.
The felt colour is…Barley Wine.

Congrats on the vacine and feeling well. The Barley Wine hat and beverage looks and sounds great. Your description has me enjoying the tasting notes. Cheers to you and your wife.

Enjoying a break in the snow storm cleanup with a dram of Glen Moray 18 Elgin Heritage Speyside with a Peters Bros Shady Oak Bankers Special 7X Seventy-five. I'm enjoying this Malt more now as an aperitif than I did after a meal. Raisins & nuts, vanilla, baked apple crisp. I really like Speysides with nose & palate of raisins, figs, nuts & brown sugar molasses. I understand now why this was ranked the #1 scoring Single Malt for 2017.

I too am sipping some whiskey tonight. Not quite as classy, but I am enjoying some Ardbeg Wee Beastie. It is an uncomplicated version of Ardbeg. It has aroma and palate. Tonight I can taste smoky citrus, mint and salty pepper. I rather like this and by gosh I will have to head over and pick up some other whiskeys of Ardbeg soon. For one thing this bottle is on its last legs.

I have never tried the 12. I have been trying to build a collection of 18 yr olds to enjoy at special times. Hard on the pocket. I'll never get to 20 or 25 yr olds. 15 - 16 - 18 yr olds will be specials.

I am enjoying some Ardbeg Wee Beastie. It is an uncomplicated version of Ardbeg.

Nothing wrong with Wee Beastie. I just haven't picked up a bottle recently. I think you will enjoy other Ardbegs. Try the 10; a little less smoky but not as young tasting as Beastie, a bit milder.

As far as I know this is exclusive to the Whiskey Exchange which is in London. And while they do ship globally I doubt anyone will see it in the US.

If someone doesn't get a handle on this inflation which started a yr ago, not just two wks ago, we'll all be drinking Mogen David grape juice.

She wanted some bookshelves for books for the g'kids so I had to make some room.

Got a text today from GC on the tapping of Burning Barns Irish Red Ale. They always tap it first because they use some of it in marinating/cooking their Corned Beef for Saint Patrick's Day next wk. They should be tapping Ladders in a wk or so.

An early Saturday HH with a few Negra Modelos & a couple doubles of Hussong's Tequila Anejo under a Stetson One-hundred NOR (not El jefe). Hussong Tequila only scores in the 70's but it's new to me, especially not being an Anejo drinker. Plenty of vanilla on nose & palate, along with a bit of mint & chocolate or cocoa. No blue agave or black pepper to speak of. They also have Platinum Anejo which I will have to try next time. So many tequilas, so little time!

I love añejo but I’ve never seen or heard of that one. What a great bottle. Another spectacular hat, HJ. Those big ears look killer.

Just checked my local apps & the Hussong Silver sells for $38.99, Repo $41.99, & Platinum Anejo $58.99. Couldn't find anyone with the Anejo for pricing. Of course I wasn't allowed to touch so couldn't tell if the bottles were clay or what?

Apparently it’s not sold anywhere near NY. I’ll have my kids keep their eyes open for it. Or I can look in the summer when I’m down south. As I was looking online for it I saw this; hand-bottled in clay jugs; somewhere online. Pretty neat.

I didn't search back many pages but I couldn't find anything on Long Island Lou's site.

I noticed in fine print on the sticker it is imported from Mexico & bottled at McCormick's Distilling, Weston, MO. McCormicks used to sell their Platte Valley Whiskey in a gallon moonshine-like glazed pottery jug many yrs ago. Those jugs are highly collectible antiques now. So the Hussong Tequilas are probably glazed pottery also.

The last couple days I have been remiss in sharing my exploartions. Cap and clockwise - Founders All Day IPA, Big Island Kona Peaberry coffee, Summit Brewing Oatmeal Stout and Bells Oberon. I will continue to stock Founders All Day IPA. The other explorations provided me expanded tasting experiences. (AKA: I am not buying these again.)

Hussong Tequila was founded in 1892 by Juan Hussong & he sold it thru his remote cantina in Ensenada.

McCormick Distilling was founded in 1840 as Holladay Distilling by the wealthy Ben Holladay who made his first fortune with his Holladay Stageline Co which ran from Mo to the west coast. Holladay Stageline Co was successful in securing the US Mail contract & essentially ended the Pony Express after just ~18 months of service. Ben Holladay also owned the finest saloon & hotel in Weston, MO. (The Holladay spelling is correct).

Earlier today, I was feeling as jolly as a big fat Buddha with my bubbles & berries.

Later, as birthday celebrations continued, I enjoyed an IPA from Heiwa Shuzo, a local sake and beer producer

I followed it up with a Porter. The brewer warned me about the cinnamon flavours in this beer. Even forewarned, the strength of the cinnamon flavours still surprised me. Very nice, but not an everyday quaffer.
