Hat to go with trench?

Yesterday, my friend and I stopped by the army-navy store to look at winter
coats. We found some that were interesting, but what stuck out to us were these
navy blue, double breasted trench coats with silver buttons, a Navy style coat
I would guess. Now I have a olive-drab green fedora, that seemed to go with the
coat. I also have a black homburg and a stingy brim grey fedora w/ a black
band. Does anyone have suggestions of hats to go with the coat?

Thanks,

J.J.

Longer. It's a trench coat, double breasted, with silver buttons. It goes down a little past my knees.

Black homburg sounds like it'd go with the coat if you were going more formal.
I tend not to wear stingies with long coats, I think the coat overpowers them.
A tan or gray fedora would also go well.

Blue on Blue!

The silver buttons sounds very military, you might consider changing them.

A blue hat could possibly be coordinated with the blue overcoat.

There are a couple of blue fedoras that were featured recently, one by Art in a thread just a day or so ago.

I have a dark blue(or light navy) German military overcoat from the 50s in a trenchcoat-style(it now has brown buttons instead of brass ones). I'm used to wear it with my choc-brown fedora and think it looks very nice and makes everything look less formal.

Perhaps it's just my quirky opinion, but I tend to think that black hats with blue coats do not mach well. I generally avoid black and navy blue, unless the black in question is in the shoes or belt.
