hat sizes

I do apologize if this is a "men's only" forum but I have a hat question. When measuring for a hat, should you go by the exact circumerence of your head or should you go a little bigger to accomodate for hair? [huh] Thanks in advance!

If you measure around your head with a cloth measuring tape where the hat would sit it should take into account your hair.

I have been welcomed into this forum despite my gender. They're good guys.

In a former life I ran a tack shop and sold lots of riding hats. Your size will depend on whether you wear your hair up under the hat or down. I wear a 6 7/8 long oval if my hair's down or short. If it's long and braided up I go up to a 7. Down and in a chignon requires the 6 7/8.

"Hat hair" occurs no matter what
