To my eye its almost as if the ribbon affects the perception of the color of the felt. A black cherry with a ribbon and binding more of a cherry color would make it seem more cherry than black. I just noticed that Art has two different black cherry colors.

Black Cherry:

And Black Cherry New Dye:

Now I'm really confused.

I agree that black cherry is a great color and I’ve commissioned a hat in the color. However, the newer dye is much darker than what it was a few years ago. It’s now definitely more black than cherry.

And your hat is that photo is amazing; worthy of the Playboy name.

Hrm....based on the pictures that Jonesy just posted, I know my hat was later than that first batch, and should be the same as Che's hat (the one on the agave plant in the lower left corner of the second batch). Is there a newer iteration?

I have a number of different color hats but none get the compliments that I get when I wear a Silverbelly. Something about it says "clean and style".

No doubt. I’m certain this is also why the Texas Rangers require colors within the sand and Silverbelly range. Sometimes those colors are a real pain to keep clean and looking nice

Your hat looks to be the current dye lot, the same as mine.

I really like the look of Che's hat on the agave! To me it almost looks purple.
Thanks guys!
:)

IIRC, his had a special finish applied that makes it almost like a long hair finish. I asked Art to do a suede finish on mine, which is something akin to a velour, but it seems to catch a bit more light than the standard pounce job, and thus appears a teeny tiny bit lighter.

Oh I don’t match colors well either. I try, but the results are sometimes laughable...
Color schmolor. I wear whichever hat I'm in the mood to wear regardless of the color of my clothes. Besides, I figure anyone who would care would be more incensed by the fact that I'm wearing a fedora with jeans and a tee shirt and the color of the hat would be irrelevant anyway. :D

Ah yes, but I’m a gentleman of distinction and nuanced sartorial verve (I looked up some words to make myself look smarter and more stylish, is it working?).

I love dressing down with old t-shirt and jeans with a nice hat and shades. Rock stars aren't the only ones that can pull that off.:):)

My rule of thumb is to make sure my hat matches my socks and underwear. Everything else is window dressing.

Word of the Day toilet paper?

That swatch card is a nice way to get a rough idea of what a particular color looks like, but I can speak from experience when I say their "Taupe" and "Tawny" are not the same color as the card would indicate.

Tawny on the left, Taupe on the right; they don't look like the same color to me. Similar, but still different.

As to hat colors, looking back at all the hats we have had come and go here, I wish we would have ordered a nutria/natural color as it seems to have something so different from all the others and can sort of fit in to many situations clothing wise similar to how a silverbelly can go with so many things.
