hat band question

Folks,

I just converted a Justin 2X cowboy hat into my first fedora and have a question about hat bands. The conversion was so easy and inexpensive that I plan on getting a couple of more hats to match my typical attire and was wondering if anyone matches their hat band to their shirt color?

I have the ability to get some made and was thinking that matching the bands would be a good way to tie everything together as I don't wear ties or suitcoats to work (Administrator in a mental health facility so ties are a safety issue)

I only have a limited number of hats. I have two straw hats, a Sunbody Fedora with a wide Maroon Ribbon, and a Stefano with a 1 inch black ribbon. I have two Felt hats, one black with a black Ribbon, and I have a British WW2 Bush Hat with a Khaki Puggaree.

Since it's bad manners to wear a hat indoors, it makes sense to match your hat to what you wear outdoors. In Winter, I wear the black hat with my black leather jacket and with my black Gortex jacket. I also wear the Bush hat with my Khaki jacket and my surplus Olive Drab coat. I wear a LOT of khaki, and both the Maroon and Black bands on the Straws coordinate with most of the polo shirts I wear over the Summer.

THATS WAY to picky for me My hat bands choice would be predicated by felt color/ hat crease /brim shape and size. As far as shirt /band color I could care less. But then I wear a Brown hat and brown shoes with a blue pinstripe suit ( try it, it DOES work )

That's way to complicated, friend! As far as I'm concerned with hat bands:

leather/belt = informal, outdoorsy

same-color ribbon = dressy or informal depending on width

contrasting-ribbon = definitely dressy

I don't really think color would factor into it all that much, but if you want to try to match you hat ribbon to your shirts, I won't stop you !
