I would like to know how they mount up. One of the DC-3s, has a horizontal pin-type clasp that makes that style a good choice, but some of the others seem to have a post pin with a button or squeeze clasp. (hope I am using the correct terms here)

I have an Akubra with a thin leather band I would like to put a pin on it, but the clasp would seem to be a problem cutting into the side of my head???:eusa_doh:

Any ideas here? Did I miss something?

Jeff, the pin on my 'Wildcatter' has the butterfly type clasp on it and it does not go into my head. But if your hat is a litle too tight that may cause a problem. I just put the clasp on and had the sweat between it and my head.
As a pin of this type will leave a small hole you should be sure that you want it and that you plan on leaving it on the hat.
Some pins are kinda like a safety pin but without a clasp, they just slide throu the fabric.
Give it a try and show us the results!!!

Thanks RBH!

It may be a little tight on the Akubra, since I had to put some cork around the head band to prevent sweat stains. I will look at other hats that may work better. Thanks for explaining how you did your hats with these two types of pins!! I will certainly post pics when I do.

Hey B-I-T

Resistol 737 Kitten Finish Original pin.

Oddly enough, all of the Boeing 737 series of aircraft from to 100-900 are all twin engine aircraft. This pin is more like a Boeing 707, DC-8, or Convair 880 airliner, with four engines each.

Dixon you possess much more information on aircraft than do I. I can not say why Resistol chose this pin for their hat, only that this is the way it came, it match's the logo inside the hat, and I have seen several others just like this one. "?"

I love those pins, guys, thanks for posting! I have some lovely pins now given to me by my Texas friend, but have been loathe to put them on my good fedoras, certainly not the custom made ones, but maybe some of the others, including cowboy hats.

Now, I am going to search for pins on Ebay. I love those little airplanes!

Bud, the same thing goes for the pin on Stetsons Stratoliner. Why they placed the DC-3 pin [ the ones with out TWA written on them] on the hats I do not know. But as anyone one can tell from the ads the Stratoliner plane pin was not the pin that was on the hat.[huh]
I have the pin without the TWA on my Stratoliner. The pin on my Campdraft is the TWA service pin.

Karol, you are right, the planes are so cool! If you can find the right size [small] alot of pins add to a fedora.

Oh, boy, am I in trouble. I just checked Ebay, typed in airplane hat pin, also aircraft hat pin, also plane hat pin -- and boy, do they have lots of those things, including some of my favorites: WWII fighter and bomber planes and some old bi-planes. Many in metal, many in enamel, etc.

They do have Spitfire pins, I just purchased a Spitfire, will wait to see what it is like before buying others.

Many are an inch-and-a-half, which strikes me as large for a hat pin, but there were some that were 7/8's of an inch to an inch.

Also fascinating: there were a lot of nose art pins, many risque as they were the women they painted on their planes in various stages of, should we say, undress. Plus others with clever names. I know an older gent who would probably enjoy some of those pins.

That's it for now. I'd love a Spitfire pin but I doubt I'd ever find one.

Tony - take a look at The Imperial War Museum, UK. As far as I remember, they sell golden Spitfire pins Worth a try...Nice collection by the way.

Bud, I worked with my camera a little and think this pic is better. I believe that the silver pin goes well with the greysilverbelly color of my Marathon.

Just for the record...

I won't post the live auction here, but, if anyone has an interest there is a Sikorsky Fedora pin now available on eBay. No one has yet bid, but I bet they will now! Igor Sikorsky of course wore his own 'lucky fedora' on each of his test flights.

Its the perfect size. Most pins are too big to place on a thin ribbon bow, but that one is GREAT! lol lol lol

What type of pin is it? A butterfly or stick pin?
It is a butterfly style, I will try and post a few more as I can.
