Happy Thanksgiving to all Ya'all!

I am especially thankful for all the hard work my wife and the other ladies do in preparation for the big feast. I am thankful for my family and friends and the good times we will have today. Thanks to the troops who are away from us and family today.

I'll add another Psalm to the list:
Psalm 107:8-9

"Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things."

I was humbled yesterday at work by a woman who is spending the day serving others at the homeless shelter their Thanksgiving Dinner. We need to remember to share with those less fortunate than ourselves.

And I can't forget: Go Cowboys!

Thanks for posting that Psalm, Cody Pendant. It is a good reminder as to why the Pilgrims (Puritans) gave that first feast: to thank God for His blessings in a New World. I am especially thankful today for my salvation, my family, my health, my friends, and my freedoms as an American.

Having wished one another Happy Thanksgiving, let us know how yours went-

We enjoyed a total of twenty in the Hood home yesterday (one stayed home recovering from dental work; felt terrible and couldn't eat anyway) and had a wonderful time.

Two turkeys, one brined, one in the roasting bag, with two types of dressing, two gravies, three pans of green bean casserole, our friend's astonishing corn casserole, green salad, jello salad, plain mashed potatoes and the ones with chives and cheese and sour cream oh mercy nurse. Not counting the relish tray and cheese and crackers hors d'oeuvre. Topped off with three kinds of pie, and coffee.

Gosh, I just found this thread! I gotta look into the OB more often. I didn't cook the meal, we all went to my sister and brother-in-law's house. I made an apple pie to bring. The prepared crust was one I hadn't used before so to try to get the apples cooked enough the crust got a little over browned, but it still tasted good! Sorry, no interest to make the crust from scratch. For this occassion they wouldn't have even have noticed if I had.

I made another pie on Sat. to give a deco friend and to share with our son, this time covering the entire crust with foil at one point in the baking process, but the apples seemed to still be undercooking... aargh.

When I gave over the pie I said that they may end having a really good applesauce pie... it looked that way when I looked through the pie crust slits! My son told me later that it came out just fine and tasted really good.

With the four of us, we just aren't into the whole Thanksgiving food glut all that much. But my sister and sil are, so they usually offer to cook for and host the meal.

We here do have a little family tradition of our own for many years now, in the evening on Thanksgiving Day- we watch "A Christmas Story" and "It's a Wonderful Life" together- its de riguer (sp?) for starting the holiday season properly.
