As bizzare as it seems, actually happened. Cannon spilled beans galore during and after her divorce from Grant. Riveting stuff.

Call me shameless but now I want to read whatever it is you read darling. Where did this lovely information come from--and strangely enough it doesn't even revolt me. Maybe it's because it's Mr. Grant and I seem to instantly forgive him his tresspasses every time.

⇧ For my dad, born in '24 - as was true of many men of that generation - Angie Dickinson was an "it" girl. Growing up in the early '70s, she seemed more my dad's generation (like a woman with an old hairdo who smoked too many cigarettes) than mine which - at least for my middle-school classmates and me - was all about Bo Derek and Charlie's Angels.

The two follow ups to that are, one, I met my girlfriend in the late '90s and we quickly discovered that her dad, born in '29, like mine, saw Dickinson as an "it" girl and, two, at my advanced age of 54 and now having seen Ms. Dickinson in several of her old movies on TCM, I do kinda get it in that she was a very pretty woman with a ease with the camera, but whatever magic dust she sprinkled on that particular generation of men was an "of the moment" thing.

Not a fan of his political views, but enjoyed his novel "Lincoln" many years ago and still get a kick out of seeing his name pop up now and then on TCM or an old TV show in the screenwriting credits.

Those who think that mutual evisceration in the guise of debate is a new thing have never watched the Vidal vs. Buckley confrontations of the late sixties.

You mean "crypto- Nazi" vs. "I'll sock you in your godd**ned face and you'll stay plastered!" at the Chicago Democratic Convention in 1968?

And that was one of the saner moments of that particular week.

Buckley could be more than a little pompous, but that was one moment when he definitely did not show his cooler emotional side.

I was a great fan of both the books and the television show. It was a sad end after he passed and his lifelong partner vet Dr. Sinclair became so depressed he took his own life.

Yesterday I forgot Chubby Checker, but as I have issues with Chubby, no apologies. Chubby did a John Lennon, when asked about popular music, Lennon arrogantly opined that before Elvis Presley there was nothing. Really?
Chubby did much the same when he said that before The Twist, the kids had nothing. So no Lindy, Jitterbug, Rock & Roll or Jive, just nothing.

Take your hands off me you stinking ape: Charlton Heston, actor (10 Commandments, Ben-Hur, Planet of Apes) 1923-2008.
