Han Solo's leather jacket in SW7

No, not just the theme. It's the sound of the TIE fighters and the blasters and the Falcon … and those three words from Han Solo.
You look quite young on your avatar there, Navetsea, but it transports me right back to 1977 (when I was 10) when the film first came out amid massive hoopla and it changed everything. Everything else suddenly paled by comparison. And the queues to see it were astonishing - hence the term "blockbuster" as people lined up patiently around the block to get in … I saw it 3 times as there wasn't any video back then, so the only way to see it was to go and buy another ticket and stand in line with all the anticipation to see again something that looked and sounded and felt so magical and special. (Hence the bitterness and resentment from fans for what Lucas later did to the franchise. He's a one-trick pony if ever there was one).
I wasn't born yet in 1977, only late 1978 :D but I watched them on Betamax casette somewhere in the 80's when it finally hit our country. It is a masterpiece of the generation indeed.

Yeah, it's hard to envision, for those who didn't live it, the phenomenon that was Star Wars. I saw the third showing in my home town, and when I went to school the next day, nobody knew what my friend and I were talking about. Within a week, it was the biggest thing in the Western World.

^ I was just the right age for the 1977 film to change my life. I cannot over-emphasize how much of an impact that film (and its two sequels) had on my imagination. Older and younger generations, though they may respect those films, will never have experience their impact, although they probably had other things that affected them in a similar fashion.

Now I'm wanting one of those jackets which Hans Olo (copyright!) wore in the early films:

I draw the line at Lando's cape, though.

I imagine probably on par with Jurassic Park?

To a certain extent, yes. But no. One thing that needs to be understood is the issue of shared experiences. For better or worse, we were less Balkanized, culturally, than we are now. Game of Thrones is huge right now, as is The Walking Dead, True Detective, etc. But it's so easy to ignore those things. I have seen zero footage of GoT, and I'm a media junkie. When we only had 3-4 channels to watch, everybody shared the experience of seeing the Big Hit TV Show at the same time. There wasn't as much to choose from to entertain you or compete for your time.

Star Wars hit like Gangbusters. It played in movie theaters for over a year. It was one of the first to spawn toys which were co-marketed with the movie. It really took America, and most of the Western World, by storm. There are few shared experiences like that anymore, and they usually, now, revolve around some newsmaking, tragic event. For those of us of the right age - I was in my late teens and driving by then - it really caught our imaginations in a way few other things had. And we still feel that way when, as Stand By wrote, we hear those TIE fighters screaming by, or the sound of a lightsaber powering up, or the Millennium Falcon, it evokes a visceral response, just like smelling your mom's best Sunday dish.

It all the sound effects, they are so iconic and have been with me since I was a kid, they are instantly recognisable. The score/soundtrack is part of that as well. I just hope that after the travesty that was the 3 prequels, that they have learned their lesson and don't screw these ones as well.

Big J....lol great one...that one got me laughing out loud and my wife wanted to know what was so funny...sadly all she gave was an eye roll and called me a nerd lol

Star Wars was the very first movie I ever saw, all of 4 yrs old, what an impact it had. I remember when the Empire SB came out and then the anticipation of Return of the Jedi. The 'prequels' disappointed, but now I am excited all over again. I recon JJ has it nailed. This looks to be worlds apart from the last three. He did wonders with the Star Trek reboot. I was never a big fan of Star Trek, but loved JJ's two films.
Anyway, I am sure most of life on Earth will end up seeing SW7 and that Disney will go on to take over the world (like the empire?)

Anovos makes one I think. Could be a nice dress jacket.... Look forward to the endless debate as to who made the leather one in the movie and who will make it for the frothing public ;)

Thanks very much! Glad to be of service.

I don't get it. Why is the wookie not gray? He's older than me, and I'm going gray.

because that wookie is a self conscious metro-man, he dyes, trims, and blows dry his hair.
probably he smells nice too.

Wested leather will probably put out their version of the new Solo jacket, I have one of their Indy jackets which is great quality and workmanship.

Ford is gray enough for both of them. Seriously, how old is he now? 70? Still acting in the role that made him famous nearly 40 years ago? A bit pathetic, isn't it?

Ha! Yes, plenty gray! (I'm kind of jealous though. I'll go bald before I go that gray. I'm doing the Ed Harris haircut as we speak). Ford is like 74, IIRC. If it was anyone else, I'd agree that it's pathetic, but I guess he can kind of pull it off because his public image has been relatively scandal free. I think people generally have a good feeling about Ford, and would give him a pass on that, maybe.

^ Wookies supposedly live for a few hundred years, so Chewie's fur probably wouldn't turn grey for a long time (depending on when he met Han).

He looks like an old Harrison Ford not an old Han Solo. Age has changed his facial expression in a way that doesn't match Han Solo somehow.
