Or just go back to Page 1 of this thread--I don't know, but I think that's who Ms. Odalisque ID'ed the pic she posted as--although my short-term memory is less than 100% reliable.

Yup, Betty Broadbent was THE Tattoo'd Lady. I'm wearing a light blue checked dress with a full skirt and brown mary-janes. Nothing spectacular but really, my costume is the tattoos. ;)
Good luck with your costume

Well, I've got two occasions to wear a costume now, so I'm thinking I need two costumes.

I was really considering going as Elizabeth Short, the Black Dahlia. I'd wear a Black 40's dress, black heels with seamed stockings, my hair in pin curls, a great big silk dahlia in my hair, and I'd do some stage makeup to draw on slits on either side of my mouth and maybe make myself look a little dead.

Do you folks think anyone will get it?

That is actually a really good idea, I might have to copy you if you don't think that is utterly terrible. It's just I am going to a swing dance and I want to be able to, you know, dance, so silly costumes are out. And I have the best black 40s dress and black seamed fishnets...and zombie makeup...

Somebody say..... zombie?

Yesterday was World Zombie Day, and I attended the London event. I'll be reprising this particular costume (hopefully with more prosthetics and little bit more broken down) on Saturday 1st, on London's fifth Crawl of the Dead.

Not golden era by any stretch of the imagination, but I plan on going as Joey Ramone this year. I WANTED to go as Joey Ramone and Riff Randle but the b.f. wants no part of any costume where he has to wear a wig. Sometimes he's just no fun. :(

I got invited last-minute to a 1929-Coney Island themed party and wanted to go as the tattooed lady. I got one of those flesh-colored shirts that makes you look like you have tatoos all over, but I'm at a loss as to what to wear with it because this is so last minute. Does anyone have any ideas for a last minute outfit? I went through my closet and don't have anything that would really work. Help, I don't know what to do! :)

Or draw tattoos on your legs with water-based pens. Wear a bustier, some little shorts, a HUGE hat with a bunch of feathers on it and high heels. Then you'll look like a turn of the century Lydia.
Or, for more golden era, a vintage bathing suit, hairdo, high heels...
I was one once for a corporate party gig, it was awfully fun.

Bummer - Joey and Riff is a fantastic idea. Your young man is etremely remiss in not wanting to play along!

Thought: what's his hair like if he won't wear a wig? Sid and Nancy is always a good option too. Done Sid myself in the past, sans-Nancy - I replicated the My Way look with the white dj.

Edward, how many Shauns showed up with their cricket bat at the ready?

Sincerely,

lol None, actually - there was one Umbrella Corps (Resident Evil) Contamination Control trooper there with (I'm guessing) his son as a zombie on a leash. Otherwise, the day belonged wholly to the undead!

Dangit, I missed World Zombie Day again??

Fraid so! Zombie walks are increasingly common though - shouldn't be hard to find one near you!

I just won first place in our costume contest at work and 75 bucks! I'll post pictures when I get a chance. The funny thing is, I went as a Mad Men secretary. Over half the people had no idea what that was eventhough they liked my outfit. When they announced me, they just thought I was a mad, as in crazy, secretary. And I work for an ad agency! I mean we do more support staff but still! Luckily the judges were from the ad agency itself so they knew what I was, but really- I was like, ya know- the show that won the Emmy, come on people!

My daughter said I was too old to use my old costumes from 20 years ago. Thats right, I'm one of those people who never throw anything away that someone might need in the future! I have a great Carmen Miranda outfit, a playing card from Alice in Wonderland, and some others. I needed something comfortable that won't get too hot. So I redid another old costume that I'm NOT too old for. Medusa. And wouldn't you know it... whatever company made small black rubber snakes every year of my life didn't make any this year. Wooden snakes, and hard plastic snakes yes, black rubber snakes, no. Black rubber bats and rats yes, snakes no. Not even on the internet! So I had to use a few plastic ones which don't move! I've worn it to a party, the Cicada club and tonight to the huge West Hollywood street party. And I haven't lost a snake yet!

Decided to put my Inverness cape and deer stalker hat to good use and have decided to be Sherlock Holmes today.

Nothing but wonderful comments about how dapper the outfit was.

Happy Halloween All!

Cheers

From Mad Men to Titanic...!!!

Michelle and Slim - just absolutely marvellous photos!! :eusa_clap The Mad Men pic really needs to also go into the Mad Men thread as it's just 'soooo good!! ;) ' And Slim wouldn't look out of place strolling along the wooden decks of that beautiful lady as she steamed out of Southampton Docks. What a GREAT showing!!

Don't know if mine counts as a vintage costume exactly, but I was wearing my repro 40s overalls and brown wedges and had vintage hair, so it is a vintage (and female!) spin on the character I was portraying!
