I just scored this on the bay, and aside from the side entry pockets, three piece sleeve, and quilted lining could this be the same pattern as the 42-18245-P contract?

Nice one. Could be the same pattern. Why would they feel compelled to change it much any time soon after the war? Seems the minor changes were made for the civilian market so as to make it a little more versatile for the average Joe. It's cool that it still has the hook and eye latch at the neck.

Thanks Satch, my reasoning too. I compared the ebay pics with ones of the 1942 contract and to me they're the same cut. Don't know if the collar snaps are there. We'll know more when it arrives.

Beautiful jacket - my dad wore a similar design when he served in Korea - side entry pockets, beveled pocket corners, scalloped flaps. Do you still have this jacket? What's the brand on the zipper?

This civilian Star Sportswear jacket is in several respects the same design as their WWII USAAF jackets. The complete jacket will state Styled by Kurland, which appears to be a trademark name which Star used for several decades on their commercial clothing. The sleeves on this jacket appear to be fuller than those on issued Star A2s, but the design of the collar, pocket flaps and epaulets are much the same as found on 1942 contract jackets.

Thanks Andrew for confirming what I initially suspected. No collar snaps or underarm vent grommets either. Sorry DaveH, jacket was a catch and release... It was way too big for me. I don't recall the zipper but it wasn't anything special. The pictures I originally posted were from eBay. Here's one of mine,as you can see the hide aged beautifully!
