The story says...

..."these things happen from time to time."

No, they don't. Not if you pay attention. I've been shooting since I was 8 and have never shot anyone -- accidently or on purpose!

Sounds like Cheney needs to read the first couple of chapters of Robert Ruark's "The Old Man and the Boy," which deal heavily with gun etiquette, etc.

As for the "darn conservatives" comment, that's why I'm a libertarian. It's all about personal responsibility.

Just proves my point some people just shoudn't have guns!!!! Hey and they're running our military OOOPPPPSSS!!!

Some people shouldn't ride in cars. What does either have to do with the price of tea in China?

Accidents happen to everyone, even if they are paying attention. According to this report, accidents such as the one the Vice President had (which appears to be "victim covered by shooter swinging on game") are not uncommon and can even be caused by the victim who, in this case, failed to announce himself when he came up from behind Mr. Cheney.

I have no strong feelings for or against this administration, and it certainly isn't perfect, but to use that as an example of "their" incompetence to "run the military"; well, that's quite a stretch.

The article said Cheney is a long time hunter. Sadly, sometimes the longer we engage in our hobbies the less careful we become.
This is just an unfortunate accident. I am glad the person who was shot is o.k.

A funny quote from the article..
"This is something that happens from time to time. You now, I've been peppered pretty well myself," said Armstrong.
He's been peppered before too! Yikes, this guy has a very "stuff happens" about getting nailed with birdshot! :D :D

Accidents happen, has nothing to do with Vice Presidency. Gemme a break !!

I am watching this on the nightly news now. I can see...it could happen to anyone. I last hunted 20 years ago, with my then girlfriend, her avid hunter dad, and her little brother. A phesant or dove, I don't remember, flew past. She swung the shotgun and the shot went off. Another six inches and her brother's head would have been in the way. So, you gotta pay attention.

Like, if you don't know what it is, don't shoot. If you climb a fence, unload. Etc.

MK First its not a red or blue thing because as a die hard conservative friend of mine says this administration is really not conservative (in the traditional sense). This administration has increased spending by over 30 % and grown government by even more and lets not even talk deficits. I was just making a comment about shooting a friend while hunting and its apparent that this guy is not capable of securing his own weapon how can he be trusted with hundreds of thousands of them?
Oh and not one single spending bill has been vetoed...Doesn't look conservative..

There are no "accidents" involving guns

I have to respectfully disagree. After growing up hunting on the front range and in the mountains of Colorado, then spending 10 years in the Army carrying a gun all of the time, and then finishing up as a cop for a few years, my opinion is that there is no such thing as an "accident" with a gun. Either you are 110% sure of your target and the impact of pulling that trigger or you don't pull the trigger - period. I have seen a number of "gun accidents" where children got a hold of a loaded weapon and shot their sibiling or the weapon just went off while they were cleaning it. Sorry, that's both a lack of common sense and BS.

In this case, there really is no excuse. The gentleman who was shot was wearing an orange vest; Cheney should have seen the vest. Secondly, the Vice President has an extensive protection detail. Do they expect me to seriously believe that the Secret Service agents didn't know every second where this gentleman - who is not part of the security detail but yet is armed with a weapon capable of killing and is within range of the Vice President - was and was tracking him. Then they didn't bother to tell anyone? Was he afraid that the local sherrif was going to come out and write him a summons for assualt or some other charge?

The simple fact of the matter is that Cheney has proven that he is incapable of carrying a weapon and shouldn't be hunting anymore. Now what does that say about his ability to be the number two decision maker - or number one depending upon who you talk to - for the most powerful country on the planet? Well...we'll save that one for another board.

That is quite true. In the Conservative with a Capital C sense the president is spending too much money. He has given it away to far too many people to try to get the vote that he will never get.
That being said, considering the alternative, he is the lesser of two evils and spent a whole lot less than the alternative. So everything is really relative.
The gun thing is a matter of personal responsibility and should be viewed as such. Just because one person did something with a brick doesn't mean you can own bricks. We have been over this ground before. According to the most recent federal government statistics, the weapon used to kill more people than any other is----drum roll please:drum: ---Hands and feet.
Just proves my point some people just shoudn't have hands and feet!!!!! Licensing anyone?!

Regards to all,

J

The person quoted about getting peppered in the article was Katharine Armstrong, owner of the ranch.

JP I'm not a big gun control advocate. Though I don't think all types of weapons should be available. The right to bare arms doesn't give one the right to atomic weapons. I know the only good thing an M-16 is good for. We spent dozens of hours on that subject in boot camp and believe me the guy next door to me shouldn't be able to buy one period.
The VP should have his hunting privileges revoked for gosh sakes...
