Maurice Jarre's music for "The Professionals" (1966), especially the beginning few minutes.

Music for "The Flim Flam Man" (1967).

Who receives credit for "The Sting" (1973) -- Scott Joplin, J.P Sousa, or Marvin Hamlish?

Does John Williams' score for "Jaws" (1975) count as music? Ditto for Bernard Hermann's score for "Psycho" (1960)?

James Horner's score for "Field of Dreams" (1989).

Max Steiner for "Casablanca" (1942). Here is a cheat: essentially any score by Max Steiner or Erich W. Korngold.

James Horner - The Machine Age from Bicentennial Man

Lalo Schrifin - Bullitt (skip hthrough a bit)

James Newton Howard - The Gravel Road from The Village

Michael Giacchino - The Incredibles

John Williams - Jurassic Park

Other great scores are Coccoon (James Horner), Atlantis: The Lost Empire (James Newton Howard), the Harry Potter scores (John Williams and Nicholas Hooper in particular), and Lady In The Water (James Newton Howard).

Star Wars, Legends of the Fall, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly have already been mentioned ;)

If you guys want some more reccomendations, let me know. I consider myself a bit of a score expert; I've got about 30 gigs of soundtracks to movies (many of which I haven't even seen) on my hard drive, and I listen to the blasted things all day.

Anything by John Williams is a "Can't Go Wrong", as are most of John Barry's 007 scores. (We'll overlook Dr. No, aside from the opening theme...)

Jerry Goldsmith (Patton, MacArthur, The Shadow[1994], too many others to list) was another prolific and highly-skilled scorer, and Basil Poledouris did good work with The Hunt for Red October and Flight of the Intruder.

If the orchestral version of the music from Top Gun's "Maverick's Reengaging" scene were available, I'd add Harold Faltermeyer and Steve Stevens.

Definitely James Horner. The Pelican Brief, Clear and Present Danger, Apollo 13--particularly "All Systems Go - The Launch".

Two words: Max Steiner. "Gone With the Wind","Laura", "Casablanca" "A Summer Place".... and hundred of others. The man was a genius when it comes to great soundtracks! :eusa_clap

A lot of talent has been mentioned above. I really like Ennio Morricone and my favorite of his is from the 1973 movie "Aguirre, the Wrath of God" gorgeous music! :eusa_clap

Also i love Henry Mancini, who wrote the music for "The Pink Panther" and the song "Moon River" for the film "Breakfast at Tiffany's " plus many others :eusa_clap OMG!!!!!!! :D

I posted this on another forum:

'Cold Case' theme song. It's something you'd expect to find on the Halo 3 soundtrack:

'The Thin Red Line' had excellent music as well. I especially like this one:

'Unforgiven- Claudia's Theme:

'The Village'. A truly marvelous soundtrack.

'Last of the Mohicans'. The whole movie is spectacular, but the music really made it.

No it doesn't.

Every so often I perform for US Veteran's Hospitals and retirement home, gratis. When I sing "Moon River" with my acoustic guitar, I look into the eyes of those for whom I am performing I can truly see right into their souls. It is as if I am seeing a lifetime of dreams, hopes and smiles of loves won and lost.

Mancini truly captured very soul of the "heart" .
