I don't remember anyone mentioning Popeye. Aside from the obvious, being a sailor, how about his dog? Does anyone remember his dog, the one who could go anywhere? He could climb walls, walk across ceilings, and he didn't bark. He made a sound that became his name and the inspiration to name a military vehicle after him. "JEEP JEEP"

I heard once upon a time that Japanese pilots were known to curse three people over their radios while on raids in the south pacific. I suppose the purpose of this was to demoralize the Americans they were bombing. The three people? Roy Acuff, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Babe Ruth. Two are on the list.

However, Acuff isn't. He may never have been a household name in all of the US or all over the globe, but in the south and in circles where country music (referred to as hillbilly music back then) was popular he was big in 1937 and his name was associated with Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry, and music publishing in '47, '57, etc. etc.
