Does anyone know where I can download some vintage-esque/film noir computer fonts?

Something that is specifically antique looking.
Like this:
rocketeer.jpg

But without the lightning bolts :p

Also, the writing at the end credits of King Kong (2005)...sorry, no screen grabs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dover Publications not only has great Golden Age clip art but CD-ROMs of old style display fonts including Moderne and Art Deco. They might be useful.

Sincerely,
The Wolf

For freebies you can go here:
http://www.fontface.com/
http://www.dafont.com/
http://www.bluevertigo.com.ar/bluevertigo.htm (a massive directory for font sites, and other graphic goodies)

A few (mostly deco) fonts you might want to look for are called BeautySchoolDropout, BigNoodle Titling, Broadway, Chippewa Falls, Coliseum, DayPosterBlack, Dekthusian, Detectives Inc, Engebrechtre, Epic gothic, Featured Item, Fiesta, Gotham Nights, Herald Square, Karat Medium, Le Film, Pusab, Red Circle, RitzyRemix, Seaside Resort and TiltAWhirl. I've seen a font that's very similar to the one on the Rocketeer post, but the name eludes me.

And if you're willing to pay for 'em, see these:
http://www.nicksfonts.com/
http://www.fontdiner.com/
http://www.urwpp.de/english/home.html (Do a search for Bernhard Gothic, and click on the 1930 keyword on the font's page. You'll find plenty of vintage fonts to choose from. Some you can find for free, but under different names)

Font Diner has some great fonts. I think depending on your use of it, it's worth the price. DaFont has a good selection too.

Unfortunately, some (IMHO) of the nicest Golden Era typesets or, of any era, carry negative baggage due to their use by the Germans during the war.

There are also some wonderful deco typesets - I'll need to try to look up the names for you as my knowledge of fonts and typesets is sadly lacking...

If you're looking for typewriter, newspaper, and other interesting fonts, try the HPLHS: http://www.cthulhulives.org/toybox/PROPDOCS/PropFonts.html. The font pack is $35 for all 50 fonts, but some are free here: http://www.cthulhulives.org/toybox/PROPDOCS/FreeFonts.html.

They also have an awesome prop document CD here: http://www.cthulhulives.org/toybox/PROPDOCS/PropCD.html. It includes things like passports, driver's licenses, library cards, though they are all centered around the H.P. Lovecraft mythos. The best prop is the extremely authentic 1937 US passport, but I also really like the zeppelin ticket. Very fun stuff!

If you're willing to pay, Letterhead Fonts has some of the most gorgeous fonts I've seen.

I love this site. I gaze at the fonts from time to time wishing I had an account

Ive collected a fairly good batch of vintage fonts. About 40 or so. I use them in most of my designs.
