I ordered a belt from Equus Leather a couple of weeks ago, still waiting for it. Waiting time is 5-6 weeks. This is my first quality leather belt; I'm wearing a Levis belt for the time being.

As for gloves; what kind of gloves are you looking for? Except for riding in colder winter temperatures, I wear the Aerostitch ropers. They hold up very well, compared to most, and are quite comfortable.

I tend nowadays to buy my belts in London's Spitalfields market. 1/4" thick, "real" leather (not bonded), about GBP30.00 a pop. Several stalls do them, I don't know any specific name. They're similar to the good belts you see at the same price ish on etsy. Belts are a thing I like to have a whole bunch of around (i.e. one in each of four colours in each of two sizes sort of thing), so I find it hard to get my head around the idea of spending GBP100 or so on a single belt.

(Fairly new, presumably, in the Aero line? Not noticed belts before). Do they shrink to fit? That could be useful as i plan to lose weight.


Gloves-wise, I can strongly recommend Chester Jeffries - https://www.chesterjefferies.co.uk/ Very wide range of styles. Their quality is several notches above the average department-store type gloves (not the cheap and nasty ones, but the type that are actually perfectly serviceable for many years). Prices are keen - in and around GBP60 buys a very nice pair of gloves to an individual spec (I have one pair in, I think , steerhide, black, with a special order red silk lining - beautiful). They also do regular special offers which allow you to choose from a limited range of options at a fixed price - those can be around gbp30 for nice, lined leather gloves, well worth it. I have a pair of those too. Currently, they have a sale on lots of stock gloves, with deerskin roper gloves at around GBP20. All their gloves are sized by number, not S/M/L.

Aside from a few Allen Edmonds belts that I bought specifically to match some of my AE shoes, I think these two manufacturers make better belts at a decent price. I bought several casual (Chromexel, to match my Aero jackets and Wolverine 1000 mile boots) and dress belts from each and have no need to search further:

I think they went up over the weekend with the Horween wallets. They're nice but a different proposition from Equus, which are very stiff and take a lot of working in - I have a burgundy one that's still fairly rigid four months after getting it!
I understand that they both shrink and expand to fit, depending on one's circumstances...

As someone who has made many, many belts, I can tell you that for what labor goes into them, those Aero belts are a tad pricey. For $86 U.S., I'd expect at least an inner lining. This is one of their products that is going to make a profit, as there's not much sewing or finish time put in on these, compared to the time-consuming jacket process. When I was making belts (usually hand-tooled or stamped, always hand-sewn), I would have felt bad charging any more than $35 for a similar belt, buckle included. Not to knock Aero, I'm sure the leather used is top notch, but this is a simple to make item, with no frills. There are cheaper, very similar quality options available, unless what you want is the Aero tag. Frank.
