Gillette Milady Safety Razor

Hey folks,

I just became the owner of a vintage razor that a close friend used as a travel razor while he was a fighter pilot in WWII. The oddest part is it is a lady's razor with a sliver barrel and a gold plated ball at the end. It's very short (which lent it's self to the pic up and move lifestyle of a fighter pilot I guess). His wife, who gave it to me, swears it was his as she had a different razor that her daughter kept.

Anyone else hear of a gentlemen from yesteryear using a lady's razor?

I believe there were smaller, women's DE razors made, men's razors were usually larger and with longer handles, to facilitate larger male hands. I've never heard of men voluntarily using smaller women's razors, but I suspect that, during wartime such as during WWII, a smaller, more compact woman's razor would be easier to pack into a soldier's kit-bag.

That must be an early model. I have a similar razor without the whisker comb but it was sold as a G.I. razor. Supposedly a serviceman could take it down and stuff it into a small canvas wallet to fit easier in his gear.

That must've been hard for women. Gillette made a Lady Gillette (circa 1960) with a longer handle to make it easier to shave around the ankles and go up. These razors also have a ball at the handle and will have stars engraved on the long handles as well.
I know of a couple of guys in a shaving forum, who use these (for their faces) and are very happy with them.

That looks like a great travel razor!
