I purchased the following items from a lady (Barbara Rasspe-Dahmann) whose family owned Pelzhaus Josef Seiffert 1863 Solingen ,Germany (see link below). Josef Seiffert was her Great Grandfather. The store closed in 2017. The items are from the 1950s and later.

It seems to be catching on because people like it. Some try to "feminize" it a bit with lace cuffs and lace jabots. Others, on the contrary, emphasize the masculine look Note through shirt front and Men's Hat. Even the skirt, notched by a deep front pleat, is said to be vaguely reminiscent of men's trousers. The skirt comes out next to the skirt of the same color different material, composed to the jacket in the color.

9. Smoking / Tuxedo suit made of light summer cloth with an open jacket. lace jabot. linen vest
10. Grosgrain Smoking / Tuxedo suit with rounded front divide and border edging
11. Man's suit made of gabardine with silks reverse. pique vest. Skirt with front pleat
12. Cashmere jacket with trimmings to plaid Wool skirt combined. Lingerie plastron and ruffles
13. Silk cloth Smoking / Tuxedo with satin lapels. double row Waistcoat in silk pique

J. Hückel´s Söhne "Omega", French Point 5 1/2, possibly late 1920s early 1930s. I only know of one other JHS "Omega" Velour (also made for the French Market) on FL that belongs to Robert (RLK) and was found in 2013. The medium weight light absorbing black Velour is of very high quality with high gloss and very pliable so easily dry creases. It's non Liner type with Crown patch. The Band is wide with an interesting Bow design. The Sweatband has the JHS Hanging Cord at the rear. The Paper Label is JHS Post WWI Soft Felt Type 1. A big thank you to Stefan for letting me know about this fantastic Velour, securing the sale and sending it my way.

Interesting find, Steve. I guess Marlene Dietrich just took it one step further in 1930 and added the trousers.

A hat like this deserves to be preserved and what place better than the place where it can find so many of its relatives? Glad to be of help.

I love how those vintage black velour hats absorb all light. I can imagine how soft it must be too.
