Hückel Weilheim "Mercur", 57 cm, probably later 1950s. The black Belt Felt has a really great finish and the Crown was pre Blocked so I kept it that way. The small Side Dents were popular in Germany in this time period. Really like the Band width, Bow design and the thinner Binding. The overall condition is fantastic.

Sucharipa Wien "Original Öster. Zeugnis / Original Austrian Manufacture", 58 cm, Wool, 175 grams, possibly early 1930s. There is no paper label behind the Sweatband and I couldn't find any production information for Siegmund Sucharipa, Hat Manufacturer, VI District, Bürgerspitalgasse 30, Wien. Siegmund Sucharipa is listed at the same address in the Austrian Hat Industry Guide of 1926. The black Wool Felt has a fine finish. The black Band is of medium width with frayed Bow. The Sweatband and Liner are both Off White. There is also a braided Cord. The overall condition is excellent.

Wonderful find, Steve. Not often you see a white sweatband on a Bowler. They're usually reserved for the finest of Top Hats.

Steve, Thanks! I am jumping on these Austrian Melonen with unique / less common makes. In this case it's highly possible the major components were sourced but not final assembly.

You do right to jump on them, Steve. As I wrote elsewhere, very interesting find in many ways. Not often you see such finishing (compenents) like that on a Bowler.

I picked up another Tyrolean for my collection. I have I think four or five actual Austrian versions with a few others (German, and velours made for Dobbs) for good measure. I like wearing them in the fall to the Beer Festivals and Christmas Markets.

I am unsure but guessing late 60's?? for this one. Wonderful soft BLACK felt with dark tan trimmings. I was really drawn to the contrast! Interesting off set bow work, which will allow me to add a nice Edelweiss pin and /or Gamsbart, without hiding it.

And it is not velour!

No lining, just the colorful tip protector....

Anyway...I am quite pleased finding this one recently.............

Mark, Great find! There should be a production date. Is there anything on the Paper Label under "Auftrags-Datum"?

I think it could be mid to later 1970s because the Paper Label Format is similar to this one that is dated 1977.

Nothing else on the label......whatever may have been has left no remnants at all. Looks just as in the photo. Nothing behind the sweat itself.

Not surprised as to 70's, I thought I was being genous with the late 60's tag.

Mark, P. & C. Habig Wien lasted to the late 1980s. They made quality hats up to their unfortunate closing.

J. Hückel´s Söhne "Standard" "Crystall Velour", FP 5 1/2, possibly late 1920s early 1930s. The Gray Green "Crystall Velour" has a great finish and easily dry creases. The liner was very stained so I had to remove and bleach so it lost a good amount of color. The "Crystall Velour" is in good condition which is the most important. The Paper Label is JHS Soft Felts Post WWI Type 1. The Sweatband has unique green cord band.

P. & C. Habig Wien "Special Qualität", 58 cm, 147 grams, possibly early to mid 1920s. This is an older one based on the Paper Label type and the use of city name Cassel vs. Kassel. In 1926 the city name was officially changed to Kassel.** The Black Felt has a superb finish / hand. The Form is impressive with a taller Crown and less side tapper. The component quality and workmanship are excellent which is always the case with P. & C. Habig Wien. The overall condition is very good especially for its age.

The Worker's "Arb." surname appears to be "Makovsky". I will have to see if I can find something about him.

Starting in 1925 there is an Anton Makovsky listed as "Hutmacher / Hat Maker, XVI/1 Koppstr. 64" in "Adolph Lehmann's general housing indicator: along with trade and business address book for d. k.k. Imperial capital and royal seat of Vienna and surroundings. 1925"

Emil Seeling Neudamm, Wholeseller. I purchased the Hat** almost 3 years ago but I wasn't able to make the connection at that time which has happened before. Neudamm was part of Germany up to 1945 / the end of WWII when it became part of Poland and was renamed Dębno. Neudamm / Dębno is a fairly short distance from Guben, Germany which was the largest Hat and Felt production center in Germany up to WWII. Based on the Hat's Paper Label the Factory that made it was probably Berlin Gubener Hutfabrik / Factory so it makes sense that a wholesaler would be in the same general area.

I also found the Brand / Mark in "Warenzeichenblatt / Trademark Sheet, Volume 32 , 1925, Publisher Wila-Verlag für Wirtschaftswerbung". This publication is also a very important find regarding pre WWII German Brand / Mark search.

That's a great find and a glorious hat, Steve. The green band in the liner is a nice luxurious touch.
